    63 நாயன்மார்கள் வரலாறு – 17. திருநாளைப்போவார் நாயனார்

    நாவார் புகழ்த்தில்லை யம்பலத் தானருள் பெற்றுநாளைப்

    போவா னவனாம் புறத்திருத் தொண்டன்றன் புன்புலைபோய்

    மூவா யிரவர்கை கூப்ப முனியா யவன்பதி தான்

    மாவார் பொழிறிக ழாதனூ ரென்பரிம் மண்டலத்தே

     

        நன்மைதிகழ் மேற்கானாட் டாத னூர்வாழ

            நந்தனார் புறத்தொண்டர் நாளைப் போகப்

        பொன்மலிதென் புலியூர்க்கென் றுரைப்பார் புன்கூர்ப்

            பொய்கையமைத் தடலேறு பிரிய நோக்கி

        வன்மதில்சூழ் தில்லையிறை யருளால் வாய்ந்த

            வண்டழலி னிடைமூழ்கி மறையோர் போற்ற

        மின்மலிசெஞ் சடைமுனியா யெழுந்து நாதன்

            விளங்குநடந் தொழமன்றுண் மேவி னாரே.

    சுந்தரமூர்த்தி நாயனார் திருத்தொண்ட தொகையில் “செம்மையே திருநாளைப் போவாருக்கும் அடியேன்” என்று போற்றும் நந்தனார், சோழமண்டலத்தில், கொள்ளிட நதியின் அருகிலுள்ள மேற்காநாட்டில், நீர்வளமும், நிலவளமும் மிக்கதாய் விளங்கிய ஆதனூர் என்ற சிற்றூரில் புலையர் குலத்தில் அவதரித்தவர்.

    பகர்ந்துலகு சீர் போற்றும்

      பழைய வளம் பதியாகும்

    திகழ்ந்த புனற் கொள்ளிடம் பொன்

      செழுமணிகள் திரைக் கரத்தால்

    முகந்து தர இரு மருங்கும்

      முளரி மலர்க் கையேற்கும்

    அகல் பணை நீர் நன்னாட்டு

      மேற்காநாட்டு ஆதனூர்

    வயல் வளம் நிறைந்த இவ்வூரில் வானுயர்ந்த மாட மாளிகைகள் நிறைந்தும், செல்வத் திருமகளின் பேராசிகளினால் கொழிக்கும் பேறு பெற்ற மக்கள் வாழும் ஊர் என்று போற்றிப் புகழ்கிறார் சேக்கிழார் பெருமான்.

    வயல் வளமும் செயல் படு

      பைந் துடவையிடை வருவளமும்

    வியலிடம் எங்கணும் நிறைய

      மிக்க பெரும் திருவினவாம்

    புயலடையும் மாடங்கள் பொலிவு

      எய்த மலியுடைத்தாய்

    அயலிடை வேறு அடி நெருங்கக்

      குடி நெருங்கி உளது அவ்வூர்.

    நந்தனார் பிறந்த ஆதனூர் எனும் அவ்வூரின் செல்வச் செழிப்பை மட்டுமல்லாமல், அவ்வூரின் தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட மக்கள் வாழும் இடங்களான புயல் தங்கும் இடங்களும் நல்கிய குடிசைகளையும், புலைப்பாடியின் அழகினையும்  காட்சிப்படுத்திச் சமுதாய வேறுபாடுகளை மன வேதனையுடன் சுட்டிக் காட்டுவதையும் காணலாம்.

    இத்தகைய சேரிப்பகுதிகளின் புலையர்களின் ஊர்த்தலைமையாக பதவியேற்று ஒப்பற்ற தலைவராக வாழ்ந்தவர். உலகியல்பின்படி இல்லாமல் சிவன்பால் அதீத பக்தி கொண்ட செம்மையான சிந்தை கொண்டவர். சிவபெருமானின் மீது சிறுவயது முதலே மாறாத பக்தி கொண்டு திகழ்ந்தவர், சிவபெருமான் எழுந்தருளியிருக்கும் கோயிலுக்குத் தம்மால் இயன்ற அளவு அருந்தொண்டு ஆற்றி வந்தார். இறைவனின் கோவில்களுக்கு நேரடியாகச் சென்று சிவதொண்டு புரிய முடியாதபோது தம்முடைய இயற்தொழிலொடு இணைந்த சிவதொண்டினை செய்து வந்தார். கூலி வேலை செய்தும், முரசுகளுக்கு தோல் தைத்து கொடுத்தும் கிடைக்கும் வருமானத்தைக் கொண்டு, சிவபெருமானுடைய கோயில்களுக்கு பயன்படுத்தும் பேரிகைகளுக்காக போர்வைத்தோல், விசிவார், ஆராதனைப் பொருளான கோரோசனை போன்ற நறுமணப் பொருள்களை இறைவனுக்காகக் கொடுப்பதற்காக, நந்தனார் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் கோயில்களை நோக்கிச் செல்வார். கோயில் வாயிலில் நின்று, தாம் கொணர்ந்த பொருட்களைக் கொடுத்துவிட்டு, அங்கு நின்றபடியே கோயிலைப் பார்த்து ஆடிப் பாடி மகிழ்வார். கோயிலையும், கோபுரத்தையும் தரிசித்து இன்பமுறுவது அவருக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி.

    நந்தனாருக்கு மயிலாடுதுறை அருகே உள்ள திருப்புன்கூரில் உள்ள சிவலோகநாதரைத் தரிசித்து, தம்மால் இயன்ற அளவு திருப்பணிகள் செய்து மகிழ வேண்டும் என்ற விருப்பம் ஏற்பட்டது. பாடல் பெற்ற தலமான திருப்புன்கூர், வைத்தீசுவரன் கோயில் என வழங்கு புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூர்க்கு 2 மைல் தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ள திருத்தலம். புன்கு எனும் புங்க மரத்தை தலவிருட்சமாகக் கொண்ட தலம் என்பதால் இது புன்கூர் எனப் பெயர் பெற்றது. நந்தனார் இக்கோயிலை அடைந்தவுடன் அன்பின் மேலீட்டால் உள்ளம் உருகி, ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர் பெருக்கெடுத்தோட திருக்கோயிலைச் சுற்றிச் சுற்றி வலம் வந்து ஆடிப்பாடி கோயில் முன் நின்றார்.

    அப்போது சிவலோகநாதரின் முன்னால் இருந்த பெரிய நந்தி சிவலோகநாதரைப் பார்க்க முடியாமல் மறைத்துக் கொண்டு இருந்தது. நந்தனார் தாம் தேடி வந்த சிவபெருமானின் தரிசனம் கிடைக்காமல் போய்விடுமோ என்று கண் கலங்கி வேதனையுடன் நின்றார். பின்னர் வாசலிலிருந்து திருப்புன்கூர் ஈசனை நினைத்து மனமுருகிப் பாடினார். மனம் கனிந்த சிவபெருமான் நந்தனார் மீது இரக்கம் கொண்டு சற்று வலதுபுறம் விலகி இருக்குமாறு நந்திதேவருக்கு ஆணையிட்டார். இறைவனின் ஆணைப்படி நந்திதேவர் விலகியதும் நந்தனாருக்கு சிவலோகநாதரின் தரிசனம் அற்புதமாகக் கிடைத்தது. இன்றும் நந்தி இத்தலத்தில் விலகியிருப்பதைக் காணலாம். சிவலோக நாதரைப் ஆடிப் பாடி ஆனந்தக் கூத்தாடியவர், திருக்கோயிலை பன்முறை வலம் வந்தார். பின்னர் அவ்வூரைச் சுற்றி வருகையில் ஒரு பள்ளம் இருப்பதைக் கண்டார். பள்ளத்தைப் பார்த்ததும் நந்தனார் ஊற்றுக்கேற்ற பள்ளமான அவ்விடத்தைச் சீராக வெட்டிக் குளமாக்கத் தீர்மானித்தார். இரவென்றும் பகலென்றும் பாராமல் சிவநாமத்தைச் சிந்தையிலேகொண்டு தம்முடைய உடல் வலிமையால் அவ்விடத்தில் குளத்தை வெட்டி முடித்த பின்புதான் மன நிறைவோடு ஆதனூருக்கு திரும்பினார்.

    இவ்வாறு பல தலங்களுக்குச் சென்று, தொண்டு புரிந்து வந்த நந்தனாருக்குத் தில்லை சிதம்பர நடராசரைத் தரிசிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆவல் தோன்றியது. ஆனால் மிகப்பெரிய கோயிலான அதில் வெளியில் இருந்து ஆடலரசனை தரிசிக்க முடியாது என நினைந்து வருந்தினார். ஆனாலும் இரவும், பகலுமாக தில்லை நாதரையே எண்ணி எண்ணி வேதனைப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். இருந்தாலும் ‘நாளைப் போவேன்’ என்று துணிவார். ஆனால் பொழுது புலர்ந்ததும், அக்கால கட்டுப்பாட்டினை நினைந்து புறப்படாமல் நின்று விடுவார். மறுபடியும் அவரது உள்ளம் உந்த, ‘நாளைக்குப் போகலாம்’ என்று ஆறுதல் அடைவார். மீண்டும் ஆவல் எழும் போதெல்லாம் “நாளைப் போவேன்” என்று தன்னைத்தானே சமாதானப்படுத்திக் கொள்வார். இவ்வாறு நாளைப் போவேன், நாளைப் போவேன் என்று ஒவ்வொரு நாளாகக் கழித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். இதனால் எல்லோரும் நந்தனாரை திருநாளைப் போவார் என்று அழைத்தனர்.

    தில்லை செல்லாவிட்டால் தம் வாழ்நாள் வீண் என்ற எண்ணம் நந்தனாருக்கு ஏற்பட, ஒருநாள் துணிவு கொண்ட நெஞ்சத்தோடு தில்லைக்குப் புறப்பட்டார். தில்லையை அடைந்தவர், கோவிலின் மதிற்சுவர் அருகே வேத ஒலியும், வேள்விப் புகையும் வருவதை உணர்ந்தார். கோவிலுக்குள் சென்று இறைவனின் திருநடனத்தைக் காண்பதற்குத் தமக்கு தகுதி இல்லையே என்று மனமுருகியவர் மதி‌லை வணங்கி, இரவும் பகலும் திருமதி‌‌லையே வலம் வந்துகொண்டிருந்தார். சோர்வு மிகுதியால் கோவிலின் அருகே படுத்து உறங்கிவிட்டார்.
    அப்போது நந்தனாரின் கனவில் தோன்றிய நடராசர், நந்தனே உன் விருப்பப்படி உமக்கு அமைக்கப்பட்ட செந்தீயில் மூழ்கி எழுந்து முப்புரிநூலோடு நம் காட்சி காண வருவாய் என அருள் செய்தார். அதே சமயத்தில் அங்குள்ள தில்லைவாழ் அந்தணர்கள் கனவிலே தோன்றி என்னை வழிபட்டு மகிழும் நந்தனார் “மதிலின் புறத்தே படுத்திருக்கிறான்” நீவிர் அவனை அழைத்து வந்து தீயிடை மூழ்கச் செய்து என் சந்நிதிக்கு அழைத்து வாருங்கள் என்று ஆணையிட்டார்.
    துயிலெழுந்த நந்தனார் இறைவனின் அருளை எண்ணி வியந்தவர் ஆனந்தக் கூத்தாடினார். மறுநாள் தில்லைவாழ் அந்தணர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு எழுந்து நடராசப் பெருமான் பணித்தபடி மதிலின் புறத்தே இருந்த நந்தனாரைக் கண்டு “அம்பலத்தரசன் ஆணையை நிறைவேற்ற நாங்கள் வந்துள்ளோம்” பெருமான் பணித்ததற்கு ஏற்ப நீங்கள் மூழ்கி எழுவதற்காக தீ மூட்டித்தருகிறோம். நீங்கள் “நெருப்பிடை மூழ்கி எழுக” என்று வேண்டிக் கொண்டனர். “இறைவனின் ஆணைப்படி நடக்கட்டும்” என்று நந்தனார் கூறினார்.

    அந்தணர்கள் திருமதிலின் தெற்கு வாயிலுக்கு புறத்தே நெருப்பை மூட்டி அதற்கான ஏற்பாடுகளைச் செய்தனர்.  மூட்டிய தீயினை வலம் வந்து நடராசப் பெருமானை சிந்தையில் நிறுத்தி தீயினுள் மூழ்கி எழுந்த நந்தனார் உருத்திராட்சமாலையும், முப்புரி நூலும் தரித்த தேகப்பொலிவுடன் திருவெண்ணீறு அணிந்து மாமுனிவர் கோலத்துடன் தீயிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்டார். நந்தனார் இறைவன் ஆணை வழி உருவாக்கப்பட்ட செந்தீயில் மூழ்கி எழுந்தபோது நந்தனார் பிரம்மனைப்போல் எழுந்தார் என்றார் சேக்கிழார். தில்லைவாழ் அந்தணர்கள் நந்தனாரின் அருள் வடிவத்தைக் கண்டு, அகமகிழ்ந்து அவரை வாழ்த்தி வணங்கினர். வானவர் மலர் மாரி பொழிந்தனர். சிவகணங்கள் வேதம் முழங்கினர். நான் மறைகள் ஒலித்தன. தில்லைவாழ் அந்தணர்கள் உடன் சென்றார் திருநாளைப் போவார் நாயனார். தம்மை கனவில் அழைத்த கூத்த பெருமான் சந்நிதியை நோக்கிச் சென்றார். பெருமானார் நடமாடும் மன்றுள் சென்றார். யாரும் நந்தனாரைக் காணமுடியவில்லை. கூத்த பெருமானின் மலரடிகளில் உறையும் பேரின்ப வாழ்வைப் பெற்றார்.

    தில்லை வாழ் அந்தணரும் உடன்

      செல்லச் சென்று எய்தி

    கொல்லை மான் மறிக் கரத்தார்

      கோபுரத்தைத் தொழுது இறைஞ்சி

    ஒல்லை போய் உட்புகுந்தார் உலகு

      உய்ய நடம் ஆடும்

    எல்லையினைத் தலைப்பட்டார்

      யாவர் களும் கண்டிலரால்.

     

    திருநாளைப்போவார் நாயனார் புராணம் சொல்லும் கருத்து

    பிறந்த குலத்திற்கும், இறை அன்பிற்கும் தொடர்பில்லை என்று நிரூபித்தவர் திருநாளைப் போவார் நாயனார்.

    ஐயரே அம்பலவர் அருளால்

      இப் பொழுது அணைந்தோம்

    வெய்ய அழல் அமைத்து உமக்குத்

      தர வேண்டி என விளம்ப

    நையும் மனத் திருத் தொண்டர்

      நான் உய்ந்தேன் எனத் தொழுதார்

    தெய்வ மறை முனிவர்களும் தீ

      அமைத்த படி மொழிந்தார்

    ஐயர் என்பது பிறப்பு வழி வருவதல்ல. வாழ்வில் உயரிய செந்நெறியால் பெறுவது என்பதே நம் தமிழர்களின் கொள்கை. ஒரு புறம் மாட மாளிகையையும், பிறிதொருபுறம் குடிசைகளும் இருப்பதனை சமுதாய வேறுபாடுகளாகக் காட்சிப்படுத்துகிறார் சேக்கிழார் பெருமான். 12-ம் நூற்றாண்டில் வரலாற்றுத் தகவலாகப் பதிவு செய்யப்படும், ஊர் எல்லையில் வயற்காட்டினை ஒட்டி அமைந்த சேரிக்குடில்களைப் பற்றி எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறார். மிகப்பழமையான வீட்டின் கூரைகளின் மீது கரைக் கொடிகள் படர்ந்திருக்கும். கோழிக் குஞ்சுகளும், நாய்க்குட்டிகளும் வலம் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கும். கரிய நிறமுடைய சிறுவர்கள் தங்கள் இடுப்பில் இரும்பினாலான அரைஞாணைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டுள்ளனராம்.  இத்தகைய சேரி வாழ்க்கை முறையை இன்றும் காண முடிவதும் வேதனைக்குரிய செய்தியாகும்.

    அன்றைய சமுதாய அமைப்பின் காரணமாக மிகச்சிறந்த சிவபக்தரான நந்தனார் கோயிலுக்குள் செல்ல முடியவில்லை. வெளியே நின்று அழுது தொழுது இசையால் பாடிப் பெருமான் காட்சி கிடைக்கவில்லையே என சிந்தை நொந்த சமுதாயக் கொடுமையை விளங்கச் செய்கிறார். சேக்கிழார் பெருமான் ஐயர் என்ற சொல்லாட்சியை, தாழ்த்தப்பட்டவர்களாகத் தீண்டத்தகாதவர்களாக மக்கள் நினைத்தவர்களையே ஐயரே என அழைத்தார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. அதுவும் பிறப்புவழி ஐயர்களாகக் கருதப்பட்டவர்களைக் கொண்டே அழைக்க வந்தார். பிறப்பு வழி அந்தணர்களாக யாரையும் ஐயரே என்று விளக்கவில்லை.

    திருநாளைப்போவார், தனது சாதியின் காரணமாக சமூகக் கட்டுப்பாடுகள் விதிக்கப்பட்ட போதிலும், இறைவனின் தாமரைப் பாதங்களில் மகிழ்ந்த ஒரு சிறந்த பக்தர். கோயில்களுக்கு வெளியே எங்கு கண்டாலும் நின்று, பாடுவார், பாடுவார், ஆடுவார், எங்கும் நிறைந்திருக்கும் அந்த மகிமையில் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைவார். ஆனந்தத்தினால் ஆடல் பாடல்கள் புண்ணியம் என்பது,

    நிருத்த மெந்தைமுன் யாவர் நிகழ்த்தினும்

     விரித்த பானு வயுதம் விரிகதிர் 

    பொருந்து தேரிற் புலவ ரரம்பையர்  

    கருத்தி னாடகங் காண்பர் சிவபுரி.

    நாயன்மார்களில் பண்ணார்ந்த இன்தமிழால் இசைத்தொண்டு செய்தவர்கள், திருநாளைப்போவார், ஆனாயர், திருநீலகண்ட யாழ்ப்பாணர், பரமனையே பாடுவார் ஆகிய நால்வர் ஆவர்.

  • அறிவியலுக்குத் தடையாய் நின்ற மதம்!

    மாந்தர்களாகிய நாம் வாழ்ந்துவரும் இந்தப் புவியானது சூரியக் குடும்பத்திலுள்ள (Solar System) எட்டுக் கோள்களுள் ஒன்றாகும். செவ்வாய், புதன், வியாழன், வெள்ளி, சனி, யுரேனஸ், நெப்டியூன் ஆகியவை மற்ற கோள்களாகும். புளூட்டோ எனும் சிறிய கோளும் சூரியக் குடும்ப உறுப்பினராகத்தான் கடந்த காலத்தில் இருந்தது; ஆனால் வானியலாளர்கள் வரையறுத்த கோளுக்கான அளவைவிட அது சிறியதாக இருந்தபடியால் கோள் எனும் தகுதியை இழந்து, 2006ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்டு 24 அன்று, சூரியக் குடும்பத்திலிருந்து வெளியேற்றப்பட்டுவிட்டது.

    இப்போது ’சூரியக் குடும்பம்’ எனும் சொல்லாட்சி அனைவரும் அறிந்த ஒன்றாக இருப்பினும் உலகம் அதனை அத்தனை எளிதில் கண்டடைந்துவிடவில்லை; அதற்குப் பன்னூறாண்டுகள் ஆயின என்பதுதான் வரலாறு காட்டும் உண்மை.

    புவி மையக் கோட்பாடு (Geocentrism):

    தொடக்க காலத்தில் பேருலகம் (Universe) புவியை மையமாகக் கொண்டது என்றும், ஏனைய கோள்கள் புவியையே சுற்றிவருகின்றன என்றும்தான் எண்ணியிருந்தனர் மக்கள். இந்தக் கருத்துருவுக்கு புவி மையக் கோட்பாடு என்று பெயர்.

    பிளேட்டோ (Plato): கி.மு. 4ஆம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சார்ந்த கிரேக்கத் தத்துவ அறிஞரும் கருத்துமுதல்வாதியுமான பிளேட்டோ விண்மீன்கள், கோள்கள், பருப்பொருள்கள் அனைத்தையும் உள்ளடக்கிய பேருலகிற்கு மையமாக இருப்பது புவியே எனும் கருத்தைக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

    அரிஸ்டாட்டில் (Aristotle): பிளேட்டோவின் புகழ்வாய்ந்த மாணவரும் சிந்தனையாளருமான அரிஸ்டாட்டிலும் புவியானது நிலையாக இந்தப் பேருலகின் மையத்தில் அமைந்திருக்க, ஏனைய கோள்கள் வட்ட வடிவில் அதனைச் சுற்றிவருகின்றன என்று வாதிட்டார்.

    கிளாடியஸ் தாலமி (Claudius Ptolemy): அரிஸ்டாட்டிலின் கருத்துக்கு வலுசேர்க்கும் வகையிலும் புவி மையக் கோட்பாட்டை ஆழமாக நிறுவும் வகையிலும் எகிப்தைச் சேர்ந்த வானியல் அறிஞரும் கணிதவியலாளருமான கிளாடியஸ் தாலமி, கி.பி.150இல் தம் வானியல் ஆய்வுகள் குறித்த விவரங்களை ’Almagest’ (Meaning: The Great Compilation – பெருந்தொகுப்பு) எனும் பெயரில் நூலாக வெளியிட்டார். அதில் பேருலகின் மையமாகப் புவியே விளங்குகின்றது என்றும் சூரியன், நிலவு, கோள்கள், உடுக்கள் அனைத்தும் புவியையே சுற்றிவருகின்றன என்றும் அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

    பிளேட்டோ, அரிஸ்டாட்டில் ஆகியோரின் தத்துவார்த்த அவதானிப்புகளைப்போல் அல்லாமல் தாம் வடிவமைத்த கணித மாதிரியை (mathematical model) அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு தாலமி புவி மையக் கோட்பாட்டை வரையறுத்திருந்தாலும் அவரின் சிந்தனைக்கு அடிப்படையாக அமைந்தது அவ்விருவரின் சிந்தனையோட்டமே. தொலைநோக்கிகள் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்படாத அக்காலத்தில், புழக்கத்திலிருந்த வானியல் கருவிகளான ஆஸ்ட்ரோலேப் Astrolabe, நோமோன் (Gnomon) போன்றவற்றின் உதவியோடும், வெறும் கண்களால் தாம் இரவு வானில் கண்டறிந்த வான்வெளி உண்மைகளை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டும் தம் கணித மாதிரியைத் தாலமி உருவாக்கினார். கிட்டத்தட்ட ஆயிரத்து நானூறு ஆண்டுகட்குத் தாலமியின் நூலான ’Almagest’ புவி மையக் கோட்பாட்டுக்கு வலுவான ஆதாரமாய்த் திகழ்ந்தது.

    தாலமிக்குப் பிறகும் நீண்டகாலத்துக்குப் புவி மையக் கோட்பாடே நிலைபெற்றிருந்தது; அதற்கு முதன்மையான காரணம் மதங்களின் செல்வாக்கே. விவிலியத்தின் ஆதியாகம நூலானது (Book of Genesis), புவியின் படைப்பு கடவுளால் வேண்டுமென்றே செய்யப்பட்ட செயலென்றும், புவியே அவரது படைப்பின் அசையாத மையப்புள்ளியென்றும் (Psalm 104:5) விவரித்தது. இசுலாமிய சமயத்தின் புனிதநூல் கோட்பாடுகளும் புவியை மையப்படுத்தியதாகவே அமைந்திருந்தன; ஆதலால் இவ்விரு சமயத்தினரும் புவி மையக் கோட்பாட்டை ஆதரித்தனர். எனவே, கி.பி. 15ஆம் நூற்றாண்டுவரை புவி மையக் கோட்பாடே உலகோரால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டிருந்தது.

    சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாடு (Heliocentrism):

    அரிஸ்டார்கஸ் (Aristarchus of Samos): அரிஸ்டாட்டிலுக்குக் காலத்தால் சற்று முற்பட்டவரும் (310–230 BCE) கிரேக்கத் தீவான சாமோஸில் வாழ்ந்தவருமான வானியலாளரும் கணிதவியல் வல்லுநருமான அரிஸ்டார்கஸ், சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டை முன்மொழிந்தவர் என்பது நமக்கு வியப்பளிக்கக்கூடிய செய்தியே. புவி, தன்னுடைய அச்சில் சுழல்கின்றது என்பதையும் இரவும் பகலும் மாறிமாறித் தோன்றுவதற்கு அதுவே காரணம் என்பதையும் கண்டறிந்துரைத்த அறிஞர் அவர். சூரியனானது புவி, நிலவு ஆகியவற்றைவிட அளவில் பெரியதாகத் தோன்றுவதையும், அவையிரண்டையும்விட அதிகத் தொலைவில் இருப்பதையும் கவனித்த அரிஸ்டார்கஸ், சூரியனே சூரிய மண்டலத்தின் மையமாக இருக்கவேண்டும் எனும் தம் கருத்தைத் தெரிவித்தார். எனினும், அரிஸ்டாட்டில், தாலமி ஆகியோரின் கருத்துக்களுக்குப் பொதுமக்களிடமும், மக்களை வழிநடத்திய மதங்களிடமும் இருந்த செல்வாக்கால் அவரின் கருத்து எடுபடாமல் போனது.

    நிக்கோலஸ் கோப்பர்னிகஸ் (Nicolaus Copernicus): அரிஸ்டார்கஸின் கருத்து விதை, அவர் காலத்தில் முளைவிடாமல் போனாலும் கி.பி. 15/16ஆம் நூற்றாண்டுகளில் வாழ்ந்த போலந்து நாட்டைச் சார்ந்த கணிதவியலாளரும் வானியலாளருமான நிக்கோலஸ் கோப்பர்னிகஸ் மூலமாக முளைவிட்டு எழுந்தது. அவரும் அரிஸ்டார்கஸைப் போலவே புவி மையக் கோட்பாட்டை மறுத்துச் சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டையே முன்வைத்தார். 1543ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளிவந்த ’De revolutionibus orbium coelestium’ (’On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres’ – வான்கோளங்களின் சுழற்சி) எனும் தம் நூலில், சூரியனே இப்பேருலகின் மையம்; புவி அன்று எனவும், புவியும் பிற கோள்களும் சூரியனைச் சுற்றிவருகின்றன’ எனவும் அவர் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார். இந்தக் கருத்தை அவர் கணிதவியல் அடிப்படையில் விளக்கிக் கோள்களின் இயக்கங்களுக்குக் குறிப்பாக அவற்றின் பின்னோக்கிய இயக்கங்களுக்கு (retrograde motion) எளிய விளக்கங்களைத் தந்திருந்தார்.

    சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டைக் கோர்ப்பனிகஸ் கண்டறிந்தது எப்படி?

    தாலமியின் புவி மையக் கோட்பாட்டு வரைபடத்தைக் கண்ட கோப்பர்னிகஸ், அதில் கோள்களின் முன்னோக்கிய பின்னோக்கிய சுழற்சிகளை விவரிக்கச் வட்டத்துக்குள் வட்டமிடும் சிக்கலான முறைகள் கையாளப்பட்டிருந்ததைக் கவனித்தார். செவ்வாய், வியாழன், சனி போன்ற கோள்கள் சில நேரங்களில் பின்னோக்கி நகர்வதை விளக்குவதில் தாலமியின் புவி மைய வரைபட மாதிரி இத்தகு சிக்கலை எதிர்கொள்வதைக் கோப்பர்னிகஸ் உணர்ந்தார்.

    கோள்களின் இயக்கம் அவற்றின் வேகம் குறித்த விவரங்களைத் தாலமி, அவருக்கு முற்பட்ட வானியலாளரான ஹிப்பார்கஸ் (Hipparchus) ஆகியோரின் வரைபடங்கள், மாதிரிகள், கணிதவியல் கருத்துக்கள் ஆகியவற்றின் வாயிலாக அறிந்த கோப்பர்னிகஸ், கோள்களின் இயக்கம் குறித்துத் தாம் கண்டறிந்த விவரங்களோடு அவற்றை ஒப்பிட்டுப்பார்த்து, புவியைப்போல் சூரியனுக்கு அருகிலுள்ள கோள்கள், தொலைவிலுள்ள கோள்களைக் காட்டிலும் வேகமாகச் சுழல்வதையும், புவி மெதுவாக இயங்கும் வேறொரு கோளை முந்திச்செல்லும்போது அந்தக் கோள் பின்னோக்கிச் செல்வதுபோன்ற மாயத்தோற்றம் ஏற்படுவதனையும் புரிந்துகொண்டார். [சான்றாக நாம் மகிழுந்தில் வேகமாகச் செல்வதாக வைத்துக்கொள்வோம்; நாம் செல்லும் திசையிலேயே நம்மைவிடக் குறைந்த வேகத்தில் செல்லும் மற்றொரு மகிழுந்தை நாம் கடக்கும்போது முன்னோக்கிச் சென்றுகொண்டிருக்கும் அம்மகிழுந்து பின்னோக்கி நகர்வதுபோல் நமக்குத் தோற்றமளிக்கும்; இதே நிகழ்வுதான் கோள்களின் வேறுபட்ட வேகச் சுழற்சியின்போதும் நிகழ்கின்றது.]

    எனவே, புவி உட்பட அனைத்துக் கோள்களும் சூரியனைச்சுற்றி இயங்குவதாகக் கொண்டால், கோள்களின் இயக்கத்தை இயல்பாக – எவ்விதச் சிக்கலுமின்றி விளக்கமுடியும் என்றார் கோப்பர்னிகஸ்.

    வானியல் ஆய்வில் தாம் கண்டுணர்ந்த சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டை வெளிப்படுத்தி நூலெழுதியவரான கோப்பர்னிகஸ், திருச்சபை மதகுருமாராக (Clergy) இருந்தவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. அவரது போலந்து நாட்டுத் திருச்சபையும் கத்தோலிக்கக் கிறித்தவத்தைச் சார்ந்ததுதான்; அதனால், தாம் கண்டறிந்து ஆவணப்படுத்திய உண்மைகளை அவர் தீவிரமாகப் பரப்புரை செய்யவில்லை; அத்தோடு கத்தோலிக்கத் திருச்சபை, இறைவனின் படைப்புக் கோட்பாட்டுக்கு எதிரான சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டையும் அதனை முன்மொழிந்தவர்களையும் முழுவீச்சில் ஆராய்ந்து தண்டிப்பதற்கு முன்பாகவே அவர் இயற்கை எய்திவிட்டார்.

    ஜார்ஜ் ஜோச்சிம் ரெட்டிகஸ் (Georg Joachim Rheticus): கோப்பர்னிகஸின் மாணவரான ரெட்டிகஸ் சூரிய மைய மாதிரியை ஆதரித்தவராவார். கோப்பர்னிகஸ் தம்முடைய ‘De revolutionibus orbium coelestium’ நூலை வெளியிடுவதற்குப் பேரூக்கம் தந்தவர் இவர்.

    ஜியோர்டானோ புருனோ (Giordano Bruno): வானியலில் மிகுந்த ஆர்வம்கொண்ட மெய்யிலாளரான புருனோ, சூரியனை மையமாகக் கொண்டே புவியும் பிற கோள்களும் இயங்குகின்றன எனும் கோப்பர்னிகஸின் கோட்பாட்டை வழிமொழிந்தார். சூரியன் என்பது உடுக்களுள் ஒன்று, எண்ணிறந்த உடுக்களையும் கோள்களையும் கொண்ட இந்தப் பேருலகம் எல்லையற்றது என்பவை இவரின் கண்டுபிடிப்புகளாகும்.

    புருனோ கிறித்த மதத்தைச் சார்ந்தவராக இருந்தபோதிலும் ஏசுநாதரின் தெய்வீகத்தன்மை, திருப்பலியின்போது உரொட்டியும் மதுவும் முறையே ஏசுநாதரின் உடலாகவும் குருதியாகவும் மாறும் என்பன போன்ற கருதுகோள்களையும், நரகம் குறித்த கிறித்தவ மத நம்பிக்கையையும் அறிவுக்குப் பொருந்தாதவை என ஏற்க மறுத்து அவற்றை வினாக்களுக்கு உட்படுத்தினார்.

    சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டை ஆதரித்ததற்காகவும் கிறித்தவ மத நம்பிக்கைகளுக்கு எதிரான கருத்துக்களைத் தெரிவித்ததற்காகவும் சிறையிலடைக்கப்பட்டுத் தம் கருத்துக்களைத் திரும்பப் பெறுமாறு கத்தோலிக்கத் திருச்சபையால் சித்திரவதை செய்யப்பட்டார் புருனோ; அப்படியும் அவர் தம்முடைய கருத்துக்களைத் திரும்பப்பெற மறுத்ததால் திருச்சபையின் உத்தரவின்பேரில் பிப்ரவரி 17, 1600இல் கழுமரத்தில் கட்டப்பட்டு உயிரோடு எரித்துக்கொல்லப்பட்டார்.

    ”அன்பே வடிவான ஏசுகிறிஸ்துவின் போதனைகளைப் பின்பற்றுபவர்கள் நாங்கள்” என்று மார்தட்டிக்கொண்ட கத்தோலிக்கத் திருச்சபையின் செயற்பாடு, அவர்களின் பரப்புரைக்கும் நடைமுறைக்கும் உள்ள இடைவெளி மலைக்கும் மடுவுக்குமானது என்பதைத் தெளிவாய்ப் பறைசாற்றுகின்றதல்லவா?

    ஜோஹன்னஸ் கெப்ளர் (Johannes Kepler): ஜெர்மானிய வானியலாளரான இவர், கோப்பர்னிகஸின் சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டை ஆதரித்ததோடு, அக்கோட்பாட்டை விரிவுபடுத்திக் கெப்ளரின் கோளியக்க விதிகளை (Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion) உருவாக்கிய சிறப்புக்குரியவராவார். கோள்கள் வட்டவடிவச் சுற்றுப்பாதையில் சூரியனைச் சுற்றிவருகின்றன எனும் கோப்பர்னிக்கஸின் கருத்தை மறுத்து, அவை நீள்வட்டப் பாதையில் சூரியனைச் சுற்றிவருகின்றன எனும் உண்மையைத் தம் கணிதவியல் கணக்கீடுகளின் அடிப்படையில் முதன்முதலில் வெளியிட்டவர் இவரே.

    துல்லியமான கணிதத்தை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்ட கெப்ளரின் ஆய்வுப் பணியானது ஊக அடிப்படையிலான முந்தைய மாதிரிகளிலிருந்து வேறுபட்டிருந்தது.

    கெப்ளர் ஜெர்மானியராக இருந்ததாலும், கத்தோலிக்கப் பிரிவைச் சாராது லூத்தரனாக (Lutheran – a major branch of Protestant Christianity) இருந்ததாலும் கத்தோலிக்கத் திருச்சபையினரின் அடக்குமுறைகளிலிருந்தும் கொலைத் தண்டனையிலிருந்தும் தப்பித்தார்; இல்லையேல் அவரையும் கழுவேற்றியிருப்பர் திருச்சபையினர்.

    கலிலியோ கலிலி (Galileo Galilei): இத்தாலிய வானியலாளரும் இயற்பியலாளருமான கலிலியோ, தாம் செம்மைப்படுத்திய தொலைநோக்கியின் உதவியோடு வானியல் ஆய்வுகள் மேற்கொண்டு சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டை உறுதிப்படுத்தினார். வியாழனின் நிலவுகளை அவர் கண்டறிந்தார் (இவற்றைக் கலிலியோவின் நிலவுகள் என்றழைத்தார் அவர்); இக்கண்டுபிடிப்பானது வானிலுள்ள கோள்கள் புவியைச் சுற்றிவரவில்லை என்பதற்கான சான்றாக அமைந்தது. அவ்வாறே வெள்ளிக்கோளில், நிலவையொத்த, வளர்நிலை தேய்நிலைகள் இருப்பதனை அவதானித்த அவர், வெள்ளி, சூரியனைச் சுற்றிவந்தால் மட்டுமே இவை சாத்தியம் என்பதனை உணர்ந்தார். பால்வீதியை ஆய்வுசெய்த அவர், அது நெபுலாவால் (nebula – a cloud of gas and dust) ஆனது எனும் முந்தைய கருதுகோள் உண்மையன்று; மாறாக எண்ணற்ற உடுக்களால் ஆனது என்பதனையும் கண்டுபிடித்தார்.

    தம் வானியல் கண்டுபிடிப்புகளை வெளிப்படுத்தி அவரெழுதிய நூலான ’Sidereus Nuncius’ (’நட்சத்திரத் தூதர்’) 1610இல் வெளியீடு கண்டது. இந்நூல், வானியல்துறையில் ஒரு புரட்சிகரமான படைப்பு எனில் மிகையில்லை.

    திருச்சபையினர் தம் மதவாதச் சிந்தனையை மாற்றிக்கொள்ளாமல் தொடர்ந்து சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டுக்கு எதிரானவர்களாகவே இருப்பதனை அறிந்த கலிலியோ தம்முடைய ’Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems’ எனும் நூலில் அறிவியலை ஏற்க மறுக்கும் அறிவிலிகள் என்று திருச்சபையினரை மறைமுகமாகச் சித்திரித்தார்.

    கலிலியோவின் செயற்பாடுகளால் எரிச்சலடைந்த திருச்சபை, அவர் தம்முடைய கருத்துக்களைத் திரும்பப்பெற வேண்டும் எனும் நெருக்கடியைத் தொடர்ந்து அளித்துவந்தது. அவர் அதனை ஏற்கமறுக்கவே, அவருடைய நூல்களைத் தடைசெய்து 9 ஆண்டுகள் அவரை வீட்டுக்காவலில் வைத்தது. அப்போதும் அவர் தம் அறிவியல் ஆராய்ச்சிகளைத் தொடர்ந்து மேற்கொண்டும், நூல்களை எழுதிக்கொண்டுமே இருந்தார். அக்காலக்கட்டத்தில் அவரெழுதிய நூல்தான், ’Two New Sciences.’ நவீன இயற்பியலுக்கு (modern physics) அடித்தளம் அமைத்துத்தந்த நூலாக அது கருதப்படுகின்றது; அதன் காரணமாக கலிலியோ, ’நவீன அறிவியலின் தந்தை’ (Father of Modern Science) என்றழைக்கப்படுகின்றார்.

    தொடர்ந்து வானியல் ஆய்வுகள் மேற்கொள்ள இயலாதபடி கண்புரை நோய் (Cataracts) கலிலியோவைப் பாதித்து அவரின் பார்வையைப் பறித்தது. எனினும், தம் உதவியாளர்களை வைத்து அவர் தம் எழுத்துப் பணிகளை மேற்கொண்டதாகத் தெரிகின்றது. வீட்டுக் காவலில் இருந்த சூழலிலேயே தம்முடைய 77ஆவது அகவையில் அவர் மரணமடைந்தார்.

    சர் ஐசக் நியூட்டன் (Sir Isaac Newton): கெப்ளர், கலிலியோ ஆகியோருக்குப்பின் வந்த அறிவியலாளர்களுள் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கவர் நியூட்டன். இயற்பியல், கணிதம், வானியல்சார் ஆய்வுகளை அவர் மேற்கொண்டார். இயற்பியலாளராக இயக்க விதிகளையும், ஈர்ப்பு விதியையும் (the laws of motion and gravity) உருவாக்கினார். கணிதவியலாளராக கால்குலஸ் (calculus) எனும் கணிதப் பிரிவை அறிமுகப்படுத்தினார். வானியலாளராக தமக்கு முன்பு புழக்கத்திலிருந்த, கலிலியோ பயன்படுத்திய தொலைநோக்கியைப் புதுப்பித்தார். அந்தத் தொலைநோக்கியின் உதவியோடு அவர் மேற்கொண்ட ஆய்வுகள் சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டுக்கு வலுசேர்ப்பனவாக அமைந்தன.

    17ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் இறுதியில் கெப்ளரின் கோளியக்க விதிகளும், நியூட்டனின் ஈர்ப்பு விதிகளும் சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாட்டின் உண்மைத்தன்மையை ஐயத்திற்கிடமின்றி நிறுவியபிறகு அக்கோட்பாடு அறிவியலாளர்களால் பரவலாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டது.

    கத்தோலிக்கத் திருச்சபை 1822ஆம் ஆண்டு கலிலியோவின் புத்தகங்களுக்கு விதித்திருந்த தடையை நீக்கி அவற்றை வெளியிட அனுமதித்தது. எனினும் கலிலியோவை நடத்திய விதத்தில் தன் தவற்றை உணர்ந்து அது மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டதென்னவோ அவர் இறந்து 350 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகுதான். ஆம், கலிலியோ இறந்தது 1642இல்; கத்தோலிக்கத் திருச்சபையின் தலைவரான போப் இரண்டாம் ஜான் பால் (Pope John Paul II) கலிலியோ விசயத்தில் திருச்சபை தவறிழைத்துவிட்டது என்று தம் உரையினிடையே குறிப்பிட்டது 1992இல்.

    இன்று சூரிய மையக் கோட்பாடும், அதன் நீட்சியான சூரியக் குடும்பமும் (Solar System) அனைவரும் அறிந்த ஒன்றாகிவிட்டது.

    மதவாதச் சிந்தனைகள் அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சிக்குப் பெருந்தடையாக இருந்ததோடல்லாமல் அறிவியலாளர்களின் உயிருக்கே ஊறு விளைவித்தன என்பதனைக் கடந்தகால வரலாறுகள் தெளிவாய் நமக்கு அறியத்தருகின்றன. அறிவியலில் மத நம்பிக்கைகளைக் கலவாமலிருப்பதே அறிவியல்துறையின் வளர்ச்சிக்கும், மாந்தகுலத்தின் அறிவு வளர்ச்சிக்கும் துணைசெய்யும் என்பதே காலம் நமக்குணர்த்தும் பாடம்.

    What a transformation is this? Decades back this luz junction was a free place with no traffic and was not dense. Even there were no shops on the pavements and it was even free to walk on the pavement close to Nehru News Mart. This was a Major Bus Route even those days with many routes plied through this Junction on all the four sides. interestingly the idea of One-way traffic did not catch up those days. Later when the commercial market developed in a bigger way this area had become congested in spite of the fact that the roads were too wider on all the sides. Most of the Prominent points vanished in late eighties which Includes Parthaas. Sawaan Restaurant, Shanthi VIhar, an elite club with bar, Ganapathi Medicals, and recently Bombay Halwa House few Years. Who can forget the mail van of Postal department that reaches Luz Amrutanjan at seven thirty sharp in the evening? Who can forget the crowded matinee Shows of Kamadhenu, Hot chai of Select and Chilled Juice of Himalayas?

    Now the whole of Luz had changed totally in all aspects and after the roads are shut the area is now totally under the control of CMRL.

    Two days ago, when i had been there i had a chat with Field staff of Metro Rail who told that the old Roundata Point and Police cabin area will be the Luz Metro Station. Three years or slightly more the reality will be happened. This station in its full form may be ready in 2028.

    But for all these many residents, Commercial establishments in and around this area have lost their Livelihood Luz. How can this sufferings be compensated to all those. The other side of Luz is Dark and sad soaked.

    Paramasivam was a devoted Congress Man in those days well before the Independence era and when he started a small book shop, he remembered to Name it as Nehru News mart. He started a small book shop in forties and little did he thought he will be successful.

    But his innovative idea of an exclusive newspaper shop was an immediate hit in those days and any journal/ Newspaper of south will be available in his shop.

    It was a privilege to mylaporeans to get their hot edition from This mart. A Mumbai edition of the day’s paper will be there in the evening. With no idiot box and colorful channels, the one and only entertainment and pass time habit was Reading and Reading alone.

    You name a weekly or a daily of any Language. it used to be there on time every time.

    With the ageing problem Paramasivam passed away in early 1990 and from there on It was his son Kamaraj who had been handling the same activity with the best tempo. He was an agent of many newspapers and Suddenly Kamaraj also passed away eight years ago.

    It’s his family which is now looking after the Business. This Mart had come across from the days of swadesamitran, Manjari and Kalaimagal to the recently Launched booklets on various topics. And this shop is also famous for the Race book as it is called.

    The Brand Original Vel is the most wanted book of those days before the races were banned in Chennai. Now the mart had survived almost seventy years Plus with the heads changing. But the landmark of Nehru News Mart and Luz always goes together.

    Oldies may well remember this point and a visit to the shop was a must for them. There are still a group or two who goes into fascination of the Nostalgic memories even today. I too can be counted on this.

    When it rained heavily in Tuticorin she smelt something wrong and decided that she has a role to play. She left her kids in a Relative’s House and went in the heavy rains to the substation to carry on the work since her presence was essential to give commands in person as the network was down in and around her area.

    She has to decide where the power is to be cut and where it has to be restored. She was assisted by few co -workers and linemen and went round the area to ensure that none suffer. She travelled in vehicle and by walk to some places where she has no access of using the vehicle.

    She stayed in the office Sub Station all the two days. Meanwhile due to the Increased rain the substation was surrounded by water. She was somehow able to reach her Higher Officials and after sometime they all assisted her and restored power in many places.

    After two days stay, she returned to her home to see her children. The whole of people around her neighbourhood was full of Praise.

    Kudos to her for the dedication in her service. We are Proud of you Sudha. Let your Tribe Grow.

    On this day Hundred and Three years ago When Ganesan was born in Pudukkottai never in their family had even thought that he would make it big one day. Ganesan wanted to become a Doctor but after the graduation in Maharaja College (He did B.Sc., Physics) he had to face many turbulences in life and he came to chennai to take an assignment at Gemini Studios as a casting assistant. His job is to ensure the testing process of the aspiring actors and see whether they fit the bill. One of the find of Ganesan was Chandrababu. He was by then married and had four children. Well before that he had taken the asylum in Muthulakshmi House in Adayar. Later she was celebrated as Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy a leading doctor and a reformist a daring approach of a woman of those days. it will be quite interesting to note that Even Vizhupuram Chinnaya Ganesan later to Become Nadigar thilakam was tested and certified by Ganesan. It was Missmalini in 1947 (a Work of RK Narayanan) His films moondru Pillaigal and Thai Ullam did not go well in the box office but it was Manam Pola Mangalyam (மாப்பிள்ளை டோய்) Marked the Entry of savitri in his life in this 1957 Release which did magic and the star was born. Remember MGR and Sivaji ganesan had already settled. He Played Pennin Perumai, Bandha Paasam and many more with Nadigar thilakam and it was only one movie with MGR (Mukarasi) From Nagarajan, it was Sridhar, Balachander, Bhimsingh, Pantulu and many more directors had done with him. Who can forget the climax of Sumaithangi, or a rightist man in Punnagai as sathyamurthy and as David aseervatham in Naan Avan Illai, it was His home production of Narayanee Films. He was a celebrated throughout his career and did the best of roles till he did his Avvai Shanmugi or Mettukudi. He had won Padmashree award and had achieved more accolades  throughout south india and other states. At the age of 85 he breathed his last around 1,30 in the noon when his family members were around him. Today it’s his Hundredth Birth Anniversary. When cremation was in the process i was in woodlands Hotel seated next to PB Srinivas. When i said that his songs had made him hero quickly he refuted and said he had become hero overnight with காலங்களில் அவள் வசந்தம் in a way Gemini Ganesan was senior to both SivajI Ganesan and MGR But Nambiar and Manohar are seniors to Gemini Too. The story of Ramaswamy Ganesan to Become Kadhal Mannan it had taken nearly fifty years. He paired with Jaya in only one movie that too as a guest role. When i think of Gemini Ganesan i recollect one  song of Velli vizha immediately. உனக்கென்ன குறைச்சல் நீ ஒரு ராஜா. He was in the throne of people’s hearts all through.. Gemini In my view is a urban romantic street smart and he won the hearts at ease.

    Tail piece – Gemini was an ace cricketer and he had served in Madras Christian College as a Lecturer. He had a passion to Translate Kannadasan’s Arthamulla Indhu Madham in English but that could not happen unfortunately

    Additional story – Gemini was a craze in our family and in 1959 when the film Kalyana Parisu was released my mother who was in her Mid pregnancy state went to Casino with my aunts and they all decided to name the boy child as Baskar and if the baby happens to be a girl it was decided to name as Vasanthi. Reason is this – The hero Geminis Name was Baskar and the Heroine Saroja Devi’s Name was Vasanthi. It was a film that was released in Casino on April 9, 1959

    I was christened as Baskar this way.

    I was in Hotel Sangeetha Mylapore few days back on a bit cloudy evening . I ordered for a small coffee and was waiting. An old lady with all her tiredness came and sat in front of me . She used her saree and cleaned her face . I just asked her age . She said she was Eighty . She expressed her pain that she has to work even at this age and said she was living in Palavakkam . She told with pain that she gets no support from the family and has no other means except to work to earn a little.
    I was shocked to see her and her fragility. How can she work and what work she can do? How people can take work from her at this ripened age ? When she was about to leave she did a Namaskaram and I did the same back to her. I was so in pain to see this woman in such a plight. What an individual can do this on this situation ? Will my feeling ever solve her problems and if it happens will it sustain forever ?
    Going by what she is saying she has been working for long hours everyday and its endless as usual . Unfortunately in a shell shocked mood I forgot to give her money which I will do sometime when I see her Next . I am sure I will . That’s the Best I could do. She has a hope that one day will be good to her . Her belief and strength has no match to anything in this world . There are more such people among us . Let’s support them if we can.

    Today I got an idea to apply gesture commands, to file transfer and more actions between devices; from laptop to mobile / tab or vice versa or other devices. After pairing them with Bluetooth, we can pick a file / folder by pointing with our index finger; then with five fingers together (standing posture) we can move towards the target device; to accept the file, we can use four fingers as we say come in to a friend; with this action, we can transfer files quickly. We can even show the target device with the same index finger to select, if there are more devices nearby.
    With gestures we can upload & download files. We can pick a file / folder by pointing with our index finger; then with five fingers together (palm upside) move upwards to upload. Similarly with palm downside move downwards to download.
    To run an app / audio / video, we can apply the same index finger to select & gun posture to run (thumb finger upside, index finger straight as pointing, all three other fingers are closed).
    With these gestures, we can run a video from mobile to TV; an OTT movie from laptop to TV; we can also switch a video call from mobile to laptop or TV. If we already paired these devices, the security issue will be solved. To authenticate these fingers, we can use biometric.
    We can also use gestures to stop a video as how a traffic police stops a vehicle with five fingers; we can show this gesture two times to stop a video / audio / game.
    There are more options to develop the gesture language; we need to standardize them quickly; so the future generation will have less operational efforts / struggles; and can spend more time on actual life.

    The Results of Karnataka had proven the same and in the case of Yogi the results in local body elections are not that great in Uttar Pradesh. Even in the case of MGR we had seen his downfall once though, he was able to manage the ladder of Success in no time.

    BJP Party on the whole think that they can steer any election anytime with a magic name. This is a rusted Philosophy.

    If only BJP Leaves the religion placard and Hindutva always it cannot be a wholistic party winning all over again and again since People had started feeling averse to many of their ideologies and run on policies all these eight years.

    BJP Thinks that they can make a throwback of money and dented freebie systems which they once said as a danger to a country.

    Now BJP men say these freebies were announced without the knowledge of Namo? Then what was Amit and Nadda doing all these Days? The party has to be function at Ground level and be reasonable in all their approach towards the govt and Their schemes.

    Tamilnadu people are not ready like many people who think the next govt is ready on a platter to Annamalai. It’s not a cake walk or bed or roses.

    Hundreds of Flowers and Garlands and Helicopter Landing cannot bring victories overnite.

    Let Amits and Anaamalais Realise this. Act and win the confidence of the people as all as inclusive without using religion card and Divisive Politics.

    Please be aware we had govts even before BJP in India and Narasimha Rao ‘s performance had not seen a match till this day. People with national fervour and spirit are in everyone’s Blood here and dont try to create a feeling that it’s a wholesale owned by BJP

    Its officially done and its T M Soundararajan Salai now. The honour is made on the legend on a very apt day.

    Mylapore MLA, Councillor Amirdhavarshini and family members of the veteran Singer joined the occasion. Great Grandson of TMS was the attraction in the event. The age old House of the house was cleaned and a portrait was kept in his memory for the fans to pay tributes.

    Palraj Seen in the picture who honours Velu is the son of Shri Soundararajan. He had rendered thousands of songs in a career spanning well over fifty Years and at a particular time in Sixties He was the Voice of the Veteran MGR and Nadigar Thilagam.

    It may a surprise news to many to know that it was not for Sivaji or MGR he had sung more songs.

    It was For Jaisankar he had sung more songs which many may not be aware.

    My Fascination for the bicycle was of high rage and since my teens till i shifted to two wheeler the liking of the same was too high- Bicycle to me was an Economical, easy maintainable and even a small boy of sixties like me who was in school could always use it at the drop of a hat.

    Though we had one at our home (Remember it was Rallis) the demand was too big for it as my father used to take it to Office.

    Of course we in life always had a choice or alternative in some form or the other. Its Hire Cycle. For semi educated like me it was HOUR Cycle and When i chanced upon this advertisement i drove back my memory to the lost decades. It was just fifty paisa or less than that for driving it for half an hour.

    Small boy like me who cannot have enough money could not afford to spend a lot and i always roam around the cycle shop to ensure that we don’t exceed the time. It was in such a cycle i used to go movies (all night show) to various theaters of old madras.

    I Still remember a long journey to Thiruporur in late seventies too. My father was a strict disciplinarian and he used to insist that i carry a kerosene lamp always till the invasion of the dynamo cycle.

    Today when i had a chance to drive a bicycle i could not drive at all for fifty meters. It was an asset to all the family of those days. It was this cycle which changed the fortune of life to many and i was one among them –Whether its BSA, Rallis or Hercules i love them always.

    For locals in Chennai around Mylapore it was Sambandam cycle a famous shop will always come to mind and for the whole of Madras it used to be BM Davey if i am right which had its showroom in Broadway.

    This happened Yesterday Morning (25th March) around five thirty am when i was driving back to my home after a coffee at Saravana Bhavan on Dr Radhakrishnan Salai. When i was driving to take the TTK Road Flyover near Narada Gana sabha i came across bunch of dogs roaring and they were in the Process of Crossing to the eastern end. I thought i can cross over them and managed my driving as usual at the same normal speed but what had happened was Different.

    A new set of stray dogs from Sabha side entered the median hole and when i was caught unaware of this i bumped on one stuffy dog.  With no big injury it ran but i fell down on road. I could not get up for a minute and was afraid that some speeding vehicle may ram me. A Good samaritan and another gentleman came and lifted me to the kerb end and got me some water. I was in Terrible shock and pain and i had bruises on my right hand and right leg but nothing on left side. In a minute they left understanding i was normal. I asked one of them to check whether the vehicle was in working condition.

    He said yes and i slowly drove back and reached Mandaveli where my home is. I went to bed since i thought i should not disturb anyone. But the pain grew around Eight am and was taken to Isabel’s.  After routine medicine and injections i was given trips. I was advised to take a CT scan after few days if the pain do not recede on the right side of the chest. It was a Hairline crack and i was advised to take rest.

    With this current situation i cannot go out on my own, drive a vehicle or even a pick a piece paper from the Ground. I am on my medications. What i do is to sleep, eat or do something light whenever i can.

    After the coffee was over a second thought came to me and it told me to go towards Vivekananda College. But i did not heed to that and disobeyed it. Since i wore a Helmet, my head was saved, i think so.

    My Friendly Advice –

    1 If you come across bunch of dogs or any stray cattle on the road, please stop the Vehicle and allow them to pass

    2 Please always use Helmet even if you go to a shorter distance

    3 if you come across intruders of any kind, please slow down the vehicle as much as you can

    I still feel that i could have handled yesterday’s Situation Better. But I did not. Life is there to teach always

    Dear Appa,

    Do you remember the days when i caught hold of your fingers and walked on the road saying the rhymes? Do you recollect the efforts you have taken to teach me cycling? Do you remember the kind concern you had to press my clothes and make me wear to look smart with a tie? Do you remember the pain you took to take me the massive High court building? Do you remember the anxiety you had in showing me the stamatis ship which wrecked near Marina?

    You will. But you can’t share now to anyone as you left close to thirteen years ago.  I remember you almost every day.

    Somehow you flash in my mind in some context or the other. You taught me English with its style but i could not grab a bit from you on any aspect. Be it a mechanical mind or an innovative skill or your lovely handwriting i could not catch up with you in any manner.

    Sad Isn’t so? How happy you were to see me in the college and how pride you were to tell the world that i was the first person to enter the college in the family? It was all the perfect love, care and concern which was purely unconditional.

    You had high hopes on me in life but i could not fulfill a bit of your Dream. Fact is i was incapable.

    I still remember the kindness you showed me in getting sweet and Karam in Udupi shanta Bhavan after admitting me in PS High School almost five decades ago.

    You were there and now too in life in every sphere of my life. Because it was a Biksha to me to what i am today. Who can fondly call me as Ayya with all love other than you? And who can show the strict father in you with a belt on hand and the whippings ? It’s all My appa.

    Now i realise what the love and life is? But it’s too late now.

    I still remember the Joyous time when you took me to the Famous Hatari and the theme music is still lingering in Minds.

    My memory is etched with you in every moment and movement of my life. What a lovely drawing you drew and plans for the erstwhile Madras Corporation? How many pats you had in life? You are an iyengar for office, Rajamani for relatives, Seshadri Mama for neighbours and Appa for me now and ever.

    Today 21st January this Thai Amavasya marks your Hundredth Birthday.

    I cannot speak to you and you cannot too. But if only you are capable enough to hear what i say and if only i could communicate to a departed soul all i can say is “Forgive me appa”.

    With Tears on roll what i can say and how i can equate to all that you have done to me.

    Appa, My fingers are ready to catch hold your hand now too. Where are you? Please touch me a moment and my life will see its fullest completion. My Namaskaram.

    It’s time for Mylapore Festival.

    This yearly treat has come to the same spots of Mada Veedhis and its a real attraction for many. Good crowd were there in sannathi street for the Villupattu and Dance Medley and Pichu Pillai Street was full of artificial jewellery, Cloth bags and Toys for Children (Picked one for my grandson).

    As usual the biggest attraction is the Food Street in Sundareswarar Street. You have all kinds of foods except the South Indian. You have hot samosas soaked in Sauce and Green Chutney on one side. Masala French Fries, Cheese Balls, Smiley Fries and Kozhukattai on the other.

    I was able to Spot Prashanth Bala The sundal man of CP Koil street in his Counter. Missed to eat over there as i was racing against time on some schedule.

    If you plan to make it out over there please do park your vehicle elsewhere and take a walk to enjoy the Festival.

    Its wallet Friendly, Tasty and Hot food is served on the spot which you will love to have. And eating on a street amid the traffic snarls and Noisy Market roads is an experience.

    As usual i found two cars that were parked illegally and had one removed immediately and one to happen tomorrow. Traffic Sub inspector dropped there in just few minutes and made the road free for public movement.

    The Festival is on till This Sunday and go there for a Break. And its only in the Evening. Miss Not.

    When some plans go bit bad, the outcome of Tensive Moments Raise the Pressure Level. I had one such experience on the dawn of the New Year.

    As per the plan a Genset should have reached the site yesterday evening around ten in the night. I was assured by my counterpart I need not have to worry and i tucked in my pills as usual with a hope that all will go well.

    But some kind of intuition made me feel bit uncomfortable all along and as expected i got a call from the Customer early around 1.30 am. With no answer on hand i thought i should attempt to end this issue and started to Kottivakkam to oversee the unloading of the same in the Biting cold.

    There was nothing in my mind except to complete the work and biked there to the spot in thirty minutes flat since there was no traffic issue all along.

    But by the time i reached the concerned team had completed the work and i heaved a sigh of relief.

    Moral – 1 We should not take things for granted just because it was Entrusted.

    2 Ignore the thought “Should we Go” at this Late Hour from the Mind.

    3 – Age is not even a number if only one is determined.

    Back home around three i sipped my favourite tea on a road side shop and now preparing to go to Bed.

    For me New Year is going to start only after a nap. May be after an hour or in the Noon. But I still Feel Driving.
