Baskar Seshadri
Today 13th November 2022 marks the completion of Hundred and twenty years of this oldest building of the famous Mylapore Police station (E1) On Kutchery road in Mylapore. It was on that day of 1902 the foundation stone was laid by Oswald routh Jones Esq the then commissioner of police.
The Building was a special one as the pattern of construction and the style was much different one and was followed by indo saracenic style. The whole of the area is around twelve grounds and on the same day the Foundation stone was laid for the Chintadripet Police station.
This area later developed into many divisions as the Madras city grew but the colour of the building of the typical indian police station is still being maintained.
Oldies may still remember the 12 Noon siren a famous time indicator to localites next to the one of the Fund office on south mada street.
As a young boy i used to salute the policeman on the road as a habit thanks to the scout education of Those days. The chennai police had transformed from a bicycle with a kerosene lamp to a hitech patrol van today with sophisticated gadgets.
Salutes to those who serve all of us
