    Poor Understands Poor Better

    Baskar Seshadri

Probably a Poor can understand a poor Better.

This old woman used to sit near the Kapali Temple tank and sometimes she used to sleep on the pavements of Ramakrishna Mutt.

She cannot walk but can only crawl and even if she could walk it could be only for few yards. During the peak time of Corona we regularly donated food packets and many of friends donated good number of clothes.

Later many groups had started donating the food but the only issue was facing was the shelter during rainy days.

This morning i saw the lady near The Mutt and her friend and a helper to her to have taken the care to dress her and you can see the photo on Plaiting her.

It needs a great patience, care and concern to nurse one and its not too easy a task. I was so much moved at the very sight of them. Was actually in Tears and could not stay beyond a minute.

Life is not money, pampering wealth or fancy cars but here it lies just across us. In a High Thick of Emotions.

A visit to Amma Mini Clinic

    Baskar Seshadri

Tamilnadu Government had opened Chief minister’s mini clinic in all parts of the state and chennai has good number of such medical rooms.

Here in Mylapore The CM Inaugurated one on Kutchery road yesterday. The old GCC office opposite the post office had been converted as a Clinic and the earlier activity of GCC hitherto functioning on Ground Floor had been shifted to the first floor of the building. This will open in the morning at eight and shuts at twelve in the noon. Again in the evening it starts at Four pm and closes at eight pm.

The UHPC’s Which are available in the morning hours are not open in the evening after three pm and this new mission will surely help people to make use of the facility in the evening too. All these clinics are ably supported by a Doctor, An assistant, a Nurse and this point can be used for a basic investigation too.

This clinic is closed on Saturdays.

People can use this at no cost and any one can walk in for a treatment and no identity proof is needed for availing the facility. The space here is comfortable and close to fifteen people can sit and wait for their turn. Besides there is also a little space available as a sit out which can be used too if the hall is fully occupied. I feel that if its used better and maintained well its sure to be a hit.

  • Blue Bed Sheet

    Blue Bed Sheet

    Baskar Seshadri

I was on my terrace again. Sounds as if I was climbing to my brain and making a deep enquiry. Not though.

This evening was very fresh and the small plane at an altitude to me was like a small snail just moving and I could not keep my head or eye on it for long.

There were other things. That wonderful blue sheet of canvas was amazing and having seen it several times it never made me tired and every time I look up it was there.

And I only do not see it. When I see it I wonder how I have missed it for too long. But I will board a different plane altogether after seeing it.

What then happens to the sky when I don’t see it? Nothing. It used to be like it was when I saw last.

Me seeing and not seeing enjoying it or ignoring it does not make a difference to it. It is neither for a boquette nor for a brick bat. It doesn’t need me. No one either. It can be there for no one and not even for itself. A probing mind on science or astronomy can resolve by saying the existence in years but what about and how about it being there

Do we need mathematics here or the art of beatitude and wonder of the nature?

Am I the part of the sky or the earth?

Why should I be fascinated towards that blue bed sheet?

How is that I become nothing when I am with it?

Is that being nothing is everything in life?

I am back to work and that sky is in me and I can make it alive anytime I want.

After all the very thought of the sky can evoke me if I think about it.

I am the thought. sky is being thought . I am the sky. I wonder at it. At me too.

Remembering Rajaji on his day today

A non violent campaign towards a rightfully Tamil political space in Sri Lanka by blocking public offices began around mid February 1961.

As students in Chennai we drew the attention of all shades of Tamil Nadu political leadership.

Rajaji supported us. He wrote an article in his Swarajya.

Annadurai led a massive meeting at Marina.

Below is the text of what Rajaji wrote:

    April 1961

    THE CEYLON STRUGGLE

    By

    C. RAJAGOPALACHARI

The Ceylon Tamils (who are old Ceylonese and are as attached to their mother island as any other citizens of Ceylon) are asking for a federal form of government in which the Tamil speaking population of North and East Ceylon may have autonomy subject to the Federal Government of all Ceylon.  This will enable them to take pride in Ceylon nationality, without any bar-sinister of inferiority.

The language issue is merely an outer symbol of the competition between the two nationalities.  It is a battle between communities, not at a battle of cultures or languages. Neither culture nor language is in danger.  Either can stand on its own strength and is not capable of being extinguished or even hurt in a substantial degree.  The question is whether the Tamil-speaking people are to be treated as equals or not. Equality will be ensured under a federal regime.  The unitary Government is necessarily leading up to place them on an inferior level.  This is the more unjust because the progress so far achieved and the present status of Ceylon as a whole depended not a little on the patriotic services of the eminent Tamilians of Ceylon.  The refusal to grant equal status on a federal basis to the Tamil population amounts to ingratitude.

Let not the Tamil Northern and Eastern Ceylon population be confounded by superficial readers of news in India with the people of South Indian origin who have migrated to Ceylon when the plantations needed hard labour and who have settled down in and around the plantations as permanent but yet unrecognised citizens of Ceylon.  They are an entirely different group.  Their quarrel is a different one.

Any sympathy from South India extended to the original Tamil speaking  people of Ceylon, who are fighting a tremendous battle for autonomy within a federal regime, can be easily mistaken for a Tamil conspiracy to bring Ceylon sovereignty and its integrity into jeopardy.  That is the reason why South Indian leaders have been patient and have not given too swift expression to their feelings of sympathy with those who fight a just battle in Ceylon on the language and federalist issues.  The present Ceylon Government party has been for sometime past pretending to see a great conspiracy between South Indian Tamils and Ceylon Tamils, which of course is mere myth born of an inferiority complex.

The question of direct action and the advisability of continuing it is quite a different question and should be judged entirely by the leaders of the movement.  One who is at a distance and who is a votary of peace may be inclined to advise compromise if it could be had on honourable terms.  It is hard to believe that reason will not ultimately prevail.  We all hope in India, who have seen the lady-Premier of Ceylon, that she will bring her best emotions into play and succeed in controlling the extreme elements on the Sinhalese or Buddhist side (what ever name we may give it) and bring the protest movement to a suspension on honourable terms.

    Baskar Seshadri

Though we experienced good rains here in Mylapore the quantum of water that got stored was not at par with the down pour especially in the temple tank .

Its understood that Corporation commissioner had taken some extra steps to ensure that more inlets be made for the water to get stored . To ensure this GCC men started the work to lay and erect bigger inlets opposite to Sangeetha Restaurant .

Now the water flows on south mada street will automatically go into the temple tank .

The work was fully completed in three days flat but the final touches are yet to be done and the same is expected to be completed before this weekend if the rains do not hamper the work . May be we can think of more inlets of this size on all the four sides of the mada street . Probably may be even more .

He is Sri Lingeswaran, a resident of Mandaveli. He is a devotee of Kollimalai siddhar and has been spending good amount of money for the cause of the poor and donates a lot to various charitable trusts.

Here in Mandaveli since the outbreak of corona he has been making mass feeding to hundreds of people everyday and you can find a serpentine queue everyday to get the food in the morning and during lunch hours.

Local construction workers, Ricksha waalahas, and all sorts of people gather every day to get their food. He had made arrangements to ensure that its done in an orderly manner. Steel barricades are erected as a make shift barrier and water is provided for washing the hands and to drink.

He has a team of workers and staffs to conduct this everyday.

    What more?

His daughter Dr. Mohana is giving free consultation every day in the morning and evening. She is from AIIMS and also handles the patients at Sri Ranga Nursing Home, Devanathan street

Of course there are some complaints that its an encroachment happening everyday and the managers of the Trust denies this and say all best actions are in place.

There are some issues which I don’t deny since I had noticed few times about the crowd that surge there. In fact old used Betel nut Plate are thrown over and sometimes they float during rains and reach the next street ..

If some extra care is taken this can be regularised better with no inconvenience to any one. I plan to tell them my ideas sometime. On the other hand, their generosity is something extraordinary and one has to emulate the quality of GIVING. This food donation happens at Thiruvengadam street , Mandaveli.

  • Online Teaching and Learning – Problems and Solutions

Online Teaching and Learning – Problems and Solutions

    V. Tamilselvi
    Assistant Professor
    Department of Business Administration
Parvathy’s Arts and Science College, Dinigul

    Introduction

Online learning is education that takes place over the Internet. It is often referred to as “e- learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning” – the umbrella term for any learning that takes place across distance and not in a traditional classroom.

Online learning is catalyzing a pedagogical shift in how we teach and learn. There is a shift away from top-down lecturing and passive students to a more interactive, collaborative approach in which students and instructor co-create the learning process. The Instructor’s role is changing from the “sage on the stage” to “the guide on the side.” Main advantages of online learning

    Convenience

24/7 access from any online computer; accommodates busy schedules; no commuting, no searching for parking.

    Enhanced Learning

Increased depth of understanding and retention of course content; more meaningful discussions; emphasis on writing skills, technology skills, and life skills like time management, independence, and self-discipline.

    Leveling of the Playing Field

Students can take more time to think and reflect before communicating; shy students tend to thrive online; anonymity of the online environment.

    Interaction

Increased student-to-teacher and student-to-student interaction and discussion;a more student-centered learning environment; less passive listening and more activelearning; a greater sense of connectedness, synergy.

    Innovative Teaching

Student-centered approaches; increased variety and creativity of learning activities; address different learning styles; changes and improvements can translate to on-ground courses as well

    Improved Administration

Time to examine student work more thoroughly;  ability to document and record online interactions; ability to manage grading online.

    Savings

Accommodate more students; increased student satisfaction = higher retention and fewer repeats.

    Maximize Physical Resources

Lessen demand on limited campus infrastructure; decrease congestion on campus and parking lots.

    Outreach

Give students options; reach new student markets; appeal to current students  thus increasing enrollments.

Online Learning Challenges Faced by Students

    1. Adaptability

Students find it difficult to adapt to an online learning environment immediately after traditional classroom learning. Due to the sudden change, they are not able to adapt to the commuter based learning. Students who have been always studying in the traditional classroom mindset are not able to focus on online platforms. It is important for them to accept the new learning environment with an open mind.

    2. Technical Issues

Many students are not well equipped with a high internet connection that is required for online learning. Due to this, they face problems in going live for virtual learning and other platforms that require internet connection. They face technical issues as they are not much aware of technology and computer applications. A slow and high internet connection can play an important role in how quickly you can attend the class and do not miss any live sessions. There is a possibility of poor connectivity if you find difficulty in downloading some information related to the subject, blurred videos, etc.

You just need to find a high-speed internet connection at your home. And know where you can get technical support for your connection and other technical issues related to software and tools for effective learning.

    3. Computer Knowledge

Lack of computer education is a major concern in today’s world. There are many students who still cannot operate basic computers with MS word and PowerPoint. And whenever some technical issues emerge, they find it difficult to solve the problem in such a scenario. They face difficulties with live classes, usage of appropriate icons, MS office, communication-related apps and websites, browsing study materials, etc. Sometimes they do not know technology proficiency like login, live classes, creating and submitting work, communicating with teachers and friends.

    4. Time Management

In many cases students find difficulty in managing their time with online learning. Online learning is completely new for them and requires intensive work. They need a scheduled planner to manage their time in an effective manner. Online learning provides flexible time unlike traditional classrooms. But some face difficulties in adjusting to the time required for online learning.
    5. Self Motivation

Students start losing hope once they find difficulty in online learning. It requires motivation to complete tasks and engage students with their learning. Lack of motivation is a common challenge for all students.

    6 . Distraction

Learning from home is an amazing experience. You might expect things around you to be like a school campus. But at home things are different for example, you might want a massive classroom, parks, playgrounds, canteens, friends, teachers around you to guide and learn. But with online learning, you have to manage everything in one room with parents around you. You can be easily distracted by small things at home.

    7 . Learning Styles

Most of the students have learned in the physical classroom. Online learning can make you adapt to different styles of learning. There are some students who can adapt to these styles quickly but what about the students who need time? In such cases, they lack concentration, inability to understand the live classes, difficulty in creating projects and assignments using technology.

    8. Communication

Students lack effective communication skills during online learning. Teachers give assignments for improving reading and writing skills but there is a possibility that they might not be able to write so convincingly that educators understand the concept behind their assignments.

There are some students who feel shy to communicate with their teachers and friends due to the new model of learning. It might happen due to lack of interest, poor technological skills with apps and video calls or unable to express themselves via live chats, emails or text messages.

    9. Virtual Engagement

Online classes help teachers to provide reading material, assignments, communication via email, live chats or messages and delivering content by live sessions, presentations, recorded videos or lectures for the students.

In spite of all these activities, still some students do not find engaging compared to a traditional one. Students find it difficult to communicate in person who struggles with understanding concepts. Many times these students do not even approach teachers to clear their doubts.

    10. Feedback

Every student needs feedback for their performance during the learning process so that they can improve their learning abilities. They are not only observed during the tests or exams but also for each assignment and project. Research reveals that the students hardly visit their assignments to check their suggestions and comments. The feedback model with respect to online will be difficult for them to understand and implement.

Solutions for the on line Learning

Nowadays adaptive learning is using Artificial intelligence to adjust the content according to individual needs. It helps in providing personalised courses to identify their weaknesses and strengths for better learning outcomes.

Need to find a high-speed internet connection at your home. And know where you can get technical support for your connection and other technical issues related to software and tools for effective learning.

Students should be provided access to support devices that can help them solve technical problems via call, email or live chat. You should pay attention to your instructor during the process of solving the issues.

Time management is the most important factor in online learning. It needs time and effort for better learning outcomes. You should know the factors that can affect your timings during the learning process such as

    A) Avoid Distractions – Try to avoid distractions that can affect your learning. There are many platforms that can engage you for entertainment and communication. But make sure that you set time for breaks and focus on learning as scheduled to avoid missing live classes or sessions.

    B) Create To-Do List – You can prepare a list of activities on an everyday basis. Try to break down large activities into smaller ones for better learning outcomes. Use this list to tackle each task. Make sure that you adhere to the list and establish the routine that can make time management practices easy.

    C) Seek Help – To manage time during online learning seek help from your parents, friends and families. So that you will not miss out on learning and at the same time work will be done.

    D) Avoid Multitasking – Do not try to take up multiple tasks at the same time. Complete one task at a time as it can make your work less effective and productive

    E) Involve Yourself – You should show up for all the activities and learning during the sessions. Make sure that you log in every day, check for the status and appear in all the sessions and discussions. Connect with your friends and teachers for asking and sharing information.

    F) Schedule Time for Learning – You have to stick to a study plan for effective learning. Take a break and resume back to learning with the same interest and enthusiasm.

    G) Stay Positive – Make sure that you are positive towards online learning. Make use of the time in the best way and gain knowledge for better learning outcomes.

Inform the parents and friends about the time of online learning so that there will be no distractions from their side. Restrict the study area for others to come during live sessions and video calls. Make sure you relax in the breaks set in the time table. In this way, you will concentrate on learning and spend quality time with your friends and family.

To get better learning outcomes, it is important to understand the learning styles. You can learn through interaction, visual presentations, audio classes or written notes. Follow your own learning style that helps in enhancing your learning experience.

Become aware of the importance of communication for better learning. Online learning enhances your learning experience. It provides a platform for communication and interaction with others. In this way, you are able to learn from them and improve their knowledge and skills. If you have any issues in communication, then seek help from teachers and friends. Ask them tools that can help you improve your communication skills. You read, write and interact for better communication.

Communicate with your teachers in private to clear doubts either through virtual learning platforms or calls. Your teachers might be able to help you out more clearly. And they can help you with some of the easy reading materials that are simple to understand. You can also take extra time with your teachers and friends after the online classes for a better understanding of the subject.

You can approach your teachers for feedback related to your performance. Teachers can give your personalized guidance for improvement and identify your weaknesses and strengths. You can improve your learning pattern based on the feedback. Unless you receive feedback from teachers, there are chances of less improvement in your learning.

Online Learning Challenges Faced by Teachers

As education is going on online, many educators are being asked to teach their students from home. We know that all the teachers are not aware of online learning and their process as most of them are into traditional classroom teaching. It sometimes makes it difficult for them to change their way of teaching. Proper online training should be given to teachers before teaching students. With all the benefits of online learning still there are few challenges faced by teachers.

There is a saying for every problem, there is a solution. So let us not only see the challenges but also find solutions to overcome them. Here are 10 challenges for teachers faced during the online learning process along with ways to overcome them

    1. Engaging students

As students are moving towards online learning from traditional classrooms, it becomes difficult for teachers to adjust to a new learning platform. Teaching online may not influence and engage students for longer periods of time. They can easily get distracted and lose concentration during live sessions.

    Solution

You need to understand that online learning has a lot of advantages with respect to tools and interesting platforms to engage students in learning. Try to include those tools and multiple types of learning approaches such as podcasts, videos ( teaching channel, own videos, live classes), discussions, various forms of text through articles and blogs, different assessment methods (tests, quizzes, assignments and projects) learning activities and collaboration for better learning outcomes.

    2. Time Commitment

If the course content is thought in person then you might not really understand the time commitment. It is still difficult to convert those learning into effective online format. Teachers should be given some time for proper planning of the content and methods to deliver to the students. Teachers are not able to deliver the effective content in time. It said that teachers take more time in teaching online than face to face. If students exceed their deadline in submitting assignments or projects can lead to more work for you.

    Solution

Use a friendly tone for communicating with your students to establish rapport. You can set reminders for assignments and projects in your learning management system. Send it to your students one week prior to the submission deadline

    3. Communication

The more detailed the syllabus, the easier to communicate to the students. Sometimes teachers are not given enough time for the preparation of content for their students. And also there are students who avoid communication with teachers during online learning.

Online teaching is like communicating without body language, so students might misunderstand and can result in their poor performance. Sometimes students might ask for an extension for their work or give any excuse for the delay

    Solution

Give flexibility for the students when they ask for not making up to their deadlines. You must recognize the need of keeping in contact with the students and understand what kind of activities can accomplish your goal. Conduct discussions for specific content for the students with the opportunity to solve the problem and learning effectively.

Also providing discussion on practical questions by the students that can reduce frustration, problem-solving skills and handling technical issues. You should provide a platform for the students in order to communicate and collaborate with other fellow classmates.

    4. Assessment

Assessment is the most important part of online learning for students as well as teachers. And it causes stress to students at times. So whenever there are assignments or projects, teachers might face a lot of questions from the students. As there is less communication between students and teachers, expectation from the students’ performances also differs. Students are likely to experience less homework, less assignments or lack of examination at times. This can cause difficulties for teachers in assessments.

    Solution

You must understand the type of questions students might ask and prepare FAQs for the common questions. Make sure that you give proper assignments and conduct tests at regular intervals. This can help you to assess them based on their performance.

    5. Feedback

Every student needs feedback for their performance for improvement. Teachers find it difficult to give feedback to all students individually. Sometimes few students get benefited from it and others don’t. As students are not given proper feedback leading to poor performance. Teachers do not find proper methods of providing feedback to all the students.

    Solution

You should understand how important it is to give feedback for the students for their growth and improvement. Make sure that you provide personalized guidance to all the students so that they can work on their learning abilities.

    6. Learning Management Systems

Teachers experience a hard time in expressing their content to students, especially assignments and assessments. There have been problems with understanding the level of difficulty in terms of course content among students. According to teachers, the incident opportunities that happen face to face communication fail in online learning.

    Solution

You should have an understanding of the strong learning management system and web technologies that can help your pedagogy. Think and take advantage of the training and workshops attended during teacher training. Apply the methods for effective teaching and management systems. You can also approach other teachers who know about the management system in online learning.

    7 . Teaching Methods

We know that most of the teachers follow typical classroom-style teaching methods, as they use to teach with only blackboard and books. It becomes difficult for them to adopt new teaching methods that are completely virtual and technology-driven.

    Solution

Most important thing is to get comfortable in a virtual classroom. Find out different kinds of tools that make teaching and assessment simple and easy. You can develop many teaching methods that can improve their learning such as conducting different activities, model making, debates, group activities, virtual tours, group discussions, role play etc.

    8. Fear of Cheating

Sometimes teachers might feel concerned about the risk of cheating in online learning. They feel that students can cheat to get better results in the tests and assignments.

    Solution

There are many reliable ways to enhance the integrity of online learning. You should allow students to take exams according to their convenience. Do not force for assignments or any tests unless they are ready.

    9. Technical Issues

Many teachers struggle with technical issues that are unavoidable and cause stress. They become helpless if something technical errors come in the middle of the live session or communicating with students.

    Solution

You should contact technical support for solving problems that can cause hindrance in the learning process. Make sure you upgrade your computer with apps and software that can help in an effective learning process with a high-speed internet connection.

    10. Course Content

The course content was designed earlier with respect to traditional classrooms. But with the shift to online learning, it requires redesigning of course which can take a considerable amount of time and energy. It would have been successful when it started well in advance for better learning outcomes. Most of the cases, these courses work well in traditional classrooms but go flat in online learning. It happens when there are no content-related activities, assignments or projects that can be done online.

    Solution

You must understand the course content and how to fit it into your online course. Make sure you modify some changes in terms of activities and assignments for a better understanding of the concepts

    Conclusion

In this quarantine on line is the only way to continue our Teaching and Learning. Instead of talking about the Problems we have focus on the Solutions to Improve our Condition. Measures have to be Taken by the Government and Educational Institutions to Simplify the Process and Improve the Comfort Level of the Students.

Around 9,000 Hindu families are at the mercy of the Bishop of Mannar. This is the situation since Portugese conquest. Francis Xavier came to Mannar. His infamous Mannar inquisition left many pits of human skeleton now under excavation by the Archeological department.

Empowering Hindu families is our goal. Mens agitat molem is the Latin phrase. Mind moves matter. Stronger the mind, stronger is your will power. Stronger will power of individuals makes a strong social fabric. Hindu social fabric is weak because Hindu minds are weak.

When you are surrounded by a strongly knit Abrahmic social order, determined to break the minority Hindu social fabric, weaker minds further weakens.

As Secretary General of the Federation of Young Men’s Hindu Associations, I had the direction from my colleagues to plan a Hindu Youth empowerment programme in Mannar district, fifty years ago.

We formed Young Men’s Hindu Associations in almost all Hindu villages in Mannar district. We took volunteers from other districts to inject moral courage among Hindu youth.

We planned self employment projects. We arranged for training of Hindu youth from Mannar in Canada and India. Mr. Ganeshamurthy from Mannar who was tarined at Madurai, is now the secretary of the Federation of Saiva Tamil templs in UK. He always addresses me as his guru.

War intervened and all our projects were abandoned. Internal displacements and international migration made the Abrahamic religionists to strengthen their base. In fact people here talk about how Abrahamic religionists were fanning and flaming the war to weaken the Hindu base and exploit the weakness to penetrate, permeate and proselytize.

Post war, the Abrahamic priesthood induced their missionaries and love jihadis to fully exploit the situation. Demographically Hindus became a minority in a district where they were the only religionists a few centuries ago.

During the past four years I took upon myself the task of recruiting volunteers to stem this tsunami tidal wave of Abrahmic onslaught. I should say that the Abramists are taking me seriously and working out ways to elbow me out without much success.

My success in the neighbouring Cheddikulam division of the district of Vavuniya in wiping out missionary activity was due to visits to every Hindu house, installing Hindu flag posts in each house. We followed it with a poster campaign. Periodically I took Hindu sevakas from South India (Tamil Nadu and Karnataka) to conduct in-situ training for the youth.

Dedicated volunteering made it possible to nearly wipe out any activity. Vigilance continues as these carcinogenic proselytizers do not give up easily.

A volunteer from Mannar having been invited went to Goa to attend the Hindu Jana Jaguritu conference during July 2018.

In Mannar I am following the Cheddikulam pattern with one addition. I compiled an 864 page hard bound book on Mannar and its hallowed Hindu history. I wrote in detail about the Mannar inquisition of Francis Xavier.

I included a chapter to make any one perform pooja at a temple.

I included a chapter on the ceremonies related to the death of a Hindu.

I included a chapter on days of pooja and fasting for each of the 12 months.

Then I followed with the relevant hymns to be recited at these poojas.

I have given a list of 424 temples in the district against a government list of 92 registrations.

I have given the denominational demographic composition of each of the 153 basic administrative units.

A la Cheddikulam, I am visiting along with volunteers carrying Hindu flags, a copy of the 864 page book and a poster to each Hindu house in Mannar district, initially covering the vulnerable areas.

The pictures you see are images of our work on 28th and 29th Nov. covering six villages, viz: Musali – Puthukudyiruppu 62 Hindu families, Musali -Kouukupadayan 45 Hindu famuilies, Musali – Maruthamadu 17 Hindu families, Musali – Potkerny 7 Hindu families, Mannar town – Nagathalvu 67 Hindu fmilies and Mannar town Sinnakadai 83 Hindu families.

These are the projections. It is for Sivaperuman to decide and direct us to the pattern and design HE has.

  • Salute the Heroes

    Salute the Heroes

    Baskar Seshadri

It was around seven am this morning (November 26, 2020).

Rain was moderate. The activity on road was almost nil except for few people who have to move out anyway for the daily bread.

It was at this time I spotted these uniformed men of the conservancy contractor company who were cleaning. These people are hardworking, young, affable and friendly too. They were thankfully in their rain suit and doing their work tirelessly.

We may know that even to clean a house its a big task but doing that on a big road like RK Mutt road is no way a small task. And they don’t do for the sake of doing it.

They literally engage with their full heart and do it. I have seen them even cleaning the areas under the bus shelter near Mylapore tank bus stand and in next thirty minutes the road was clean and neat. They did this amid the rains with a little cup of tea and biscuit and since they know me well they extended their gesture with a big smile.

I reciprocated. But they need this from all. When you happen to see them next time on the road just stop for a minute and say that they are doing a yeomen service and pat their shoulders if you can or wish a women worker with a Namaste. They need this and we need them.

Our salutes Guys for all that you do to us in the climate of all seasons braving rain and shine .

  • Janaki Neelamani’s Leo library

    Janaki Neelamani’s Leo library

    Seshadri Baskar

K.P. Neelamani was a famous tamil writer in those days and my friends including myself used to frequent him since he was operating a small library on Mandaveli street . We used to pick the books often and had a very friendly association for a long time.

He was too friendly and was very much affectionate when all of us were in our mid twenties . After his demise his wife Janaki Neelamani started handling this library work and she has her set of customers who still remember her and make it to pick the books regularly.

Its a small place of less than hundred square feet and Maami fondly being called by everyone used to make it at sharp nine in the morning everyday (of course there was a break for some months during the covid times) to meet the customers.

Leo library is the name of the Lending unit and she charges a nominal sum of Rs Hundred as Membership fee unlike others who charges five hundred and above. She lends only Tamil books and if any body is interested can reach the library at 9444542733.

In the noon after a break she opens the library and its open till seven depending upon the footfall. Maami is such a affectionate person and when I met her this morning she was too kind to speak recollecting our frequent visits in those days and surprisingly. she even said our membership number was hundred.

Few newspapers years back had done story on this Leo Library and she was too happy show all those accolades she has won. At this elderly age (must be above seventy), she is too active and energetic and I wish our friends to support her and become a member. We have to learn a lot from her in life for all the grit and energy level.

When I said, I want become a member and pay afresh she flatly refused and said that I am already a member. What more. she did a fresh membership card and remembered to mention the number as 100 . You know we all had paid just Ten Rupees thirty years back and she still regard all of us are esteemed Members even today. What a integrity and High Ethics it is to adore. My Respects Maami .

The library is near Mandaveli Market opposite to CC Bank .

  • Story of How Ganapathy Subramaniam became Gemini Ganesan

Story of How Ganapathy Subramaniam became Gemini Ganesan

    Seshadri Baskar

On this day, hundred years ago, when Ganesan was born in Pudukkottai never in their family had even thought that he would make it big one day .

Ganesan wanted to become a Doctor but after the graduation in Maharaja College (He did B.Sc., Physics), he had to face many turbulences in life and he came to Chennai to take an assignment at Gemini Studios as a casting assistant . His job is to ensure the testing process of the aspiring actors and see whether they fit the bill.

One of the find of Ganesan was Chandrababu. He was by then married and had four children. Well before that he had taken the asylum in Muthulakshmi House in Adayar. Later she was celebrated as Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy a leading doctor and a reformist a daring approach of a woman of those days.

It will be quite interesting to note that even Vizhupuram Chinnaya Ganesan later to become Nadigar Thilakam was tested and certified by Ganesan. It was Missmalini in 1947 ( a Work of RK Narayanan ).

His films Moondru Pillaigal and Thai Ullam did not go well in the box office but it was Manam Pola Mangalyam (மாப்பிள்ளை டோய்) marked the entry of Savitri in his life in this 1957 Release which did magic and the star was born.

Remember MGR and Sivaji Ganesan had already settled. He played Pennin Perumai, Bandha Paasam and many more with Nadigar thilakam and it was only one movie with MGR (Mukarasi). From Nagaraja , it was Sridhar, Balachander, Bhimsingh, Pantulu and many more directors had done with him. Who can forget the climax of Sumaithangi, or a rightist man in Punnagai as sathyamurthy and as David aseervatham in Naan Avan Illai, it was his home production of Narayanee Films .

He was a celebrated throughout his career and did the best of roles till he did his Avvai Shanmugi or Mettukudi. He had won Padmashree award and had achieved more accolades throughout south India and other states .

At the age of 85 he breathed his last around 1,30 in the noon when his family members were around him. Today its his Hundredth Birth Anniversary. When cremation was in the process, I was in Woodlands Hotel seated next to PB Srinivas. When I said that his songs had made him hero quickly he refuted and said he had become hero overnight with காலங்களில் அவள் வசந்தம் in a way Gemini Ganesan was senior to both SivajI Ganesan and MGR. But Nambiar and Manohar are seniors to Gemini Too.

The story of Ramaswamy Ganesan to Become Kadhal Mannan it had taken nearly fifty years. He paired with Jaya in only one movie that too as a guest role . When I think of Gemini Ganesan I recollect one song of Velli vizha immeditley. உனக்கென்ன குறைச்சல் நீ ஒரு ராஜா.

He was in the throne of peoples hearts all through.. Gemini In my view is a urban romantic street smart and he won the hearts at ease .

    ————————————————————————

    Tail piece

Gemini was an ace cricketer and he had served in Madras Christian College as a Lecturer. He had a passion to Translate Kannadasan’s Arthamulla Indhu Madham in English but that could not happen unfortunately.

    Additional story

Gemini was a craze in our family and in 1959 when the film Kalyana Parisu was released my mother who was in her Mid pregnancy state went to Casino with my aunts and they all decided to name the boy child as Baskar and if the baby happens to be a girl it was decided to name as Vasanthi . Reason is this – The hero Gemini’s Name was Baskar and the Heroine Saroja Devi’s Name was Vasanthi . It was a film that was released in Casino on April 9 , 1959. I was christened as Baskar this way

  • Dr.Sesha Srinivasan and Gage Roper gain prestigious Fulbright appointments

Dr.Sesha Srinivasan and Gage Roper gain prestigious Fulbright appointments

A Florida Polytechnic University assistant professor and a senior computer science student have been selected by the Fulbright Program for prestigious academic appointments.

Dr. Sesha Srinivasan, chair of Florida Poly’s Department of Natural Sciences, was selected to the Fulbright Specialist Program. The effort allows overseas universities, cultural centers, and other institutions to develop collaborative projects with leading U.S. academic professionals.

Gage Roper, a senior majoring in computer science with a concentration in cybersecurity, was selected to take part in Fulbright Canada’s Killam Fellowship Program. Killam Fellows study at a leading Canadian university for a semester.

“These help build our reputation in the international community,” said Srinivasan, who will serve in the Fulbright Specialist Program for three years.

Srinivasan nominated Roper for the fellowship. The two met when Roper took Srinivasan’s physics 2 class two years ago.

“After the first exam, I did not do well. I went to him afterward and I said, ‘I don’t know what’s going on. I think I’m going to drop the course,’” Roper said. “He was like, ‘No, stay in it and I’ll help you out.’ He ended up setting up tutoring sessions with the TA for me and I put in a lot of work in the class and end up with an A.”

Roper said if he can progress from doing poorly in that class to being named a Killam Fellow, anything is possible.

“This is a very competitive selection. I was competing against people from Harvard and Yale,” he said. “To be selected means they saw something in me, and I was able to prove myself.”

Roper was unable to travel to Canada to take part in the program this semester due to COVID-19 restrictions, but he is hopeful he will be able to do so in January 2021.

“I never thought I was going to have a college degree in the first place, but now being on the cusp of achieving that and receiving something so great as the Killam Fellowship, it has inspired me to pursue my master’s degree,” said the graduate of Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Florida.

Selection to the Fulbright Specialist Program was a years’ long effort for Srinivasan, who first applied in 2016.

“It is a very competitive, prestigious award,” he said. “These are professionals from around the nation who are counted as experts for the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Program.”

During his three-year tenure, Srinivasan can be called upon to collaborate on a variety of projects that can benefit from his research and academic experience. The projects may include consulting on faculty development, developing curricula and materials, lecturing, or evaluating a program.

“This international collaboration will be a benefit to Florida Poly’s graduate program,” Srinivasan said. “I think that it will motivate and bring more students to Florida Poly for their higher education.”

    ரசூல் பீவி அவர்கள் வாழ்ந்த காலம் மற்றும் வாழ்க்கை வரலாறு பற்றிய முழுமையான தகவல்கள் எதுவும் காணக் கிடைக்கவில்லை. இருப்பினும் ரசூல் பீவி அவர்களைப் பற்றிய சில வரலாற்றுத் தகவல்கள் அவருடைய பாடல்களில் அகச்சான்றாகக் காணக்கிடைக்கிறது. மேலும் ரசூல் பீவி அவர்கள் வாழ்ந்த காலகட்டம் 1910 என்று முனைவர் தாயம்மாள் அறவாணன் அவர்கள் பதிவு செய்துள்ளார். அதேசமயம் 1910 ஆம் ஆண்டு, ரசூல் பீவியினுடைய மகன் முகம்மதப்பா சாஹிப் அவர்கள் தன்னுடைய பெற்றோர்கள் இயற்றிய ஞானப்பாடல்களைத் தொகுத்து பரிமளத்தார் பாடல் எனும் தலைப்பில் நூலாக தென்காசி ராமானுஜம் அச்சுக்கூடத்தில் பதிப்பித்தார் என்றும், ரசூல் பீவி அவர்கள் இயற்றிய ஞானாமிர்த சாகரம் எனும் ஞானப்பாடல்கள் அடங்கிய தொகுப்பானது, பரிமளத்தார் பாடல் என்ற அந்த நூலின் பிற்பகுதியில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளதாகவும் இரா. முத்துக்குமாரசாமி அவர்கள் எழுதிய சூஃபி இலக்கியப் பதிப்புகளும் உரைகளும் எனும் கட்டுரையில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். மேற்காணும் தகவல்களின் அடிப்படையில் நோக்கும்பொழுது ஞானாமிர்த சாகரம் எனும் நூலினைப் பதிப்பிக்கும்பொழுது முகம்மதப்பா அவர்களின் வயதானது தோராயமாக 20க்கு மேல் 70க்குள் இருக்கக்கூடிய பட்சத்தில் ரசூல் பீவி அவர்கள் 1822க்கு மேல் 1872க்கு உட்பட்ட காலகட்டத்தில் பிறந்திருக்கவே வாய்ப்பு அதிகமாக உள்ளது.

    மேற்கண்ட ஆய்வின் வழியாக, ஆவுடை அக்காள் அவர்கள் பதினாறாம் நூற்றாண்டில் வேணாட்டு மன்னர்களின் ஆட்சிக்குட்பட்ட செங்கோட்டையிலும், ரசூல் பீவி அவர்கள் பதினெட்டாம் நூற்றாண்டில் பிரித்தானியக் கிழக்கிந்தியக் கம்பெனி ஆட்சி அல்லது பிரித்தானிய இந்தியப் பேரரசின் ஆட்சிக்குட்பட்ட தென்காசியிலும் பிறந்திருக்கலாம் என்பது புலனாகிறது.

    கைம்மை நோன்பும் – காதல் வாழ்வும்

    பழமைவாதத்தின் பாசறையாக விளங்கிய பதினாறாம் நூற்றாண்டில், கேரள வேணாட்டு மன்னர்களின் ஆட்சியின்கீழ் இருந்த சிறுநகரமான செங்கோட்டையில் வாழ்ந்த ஓர் அந்தணர் குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்த பெண் ஆவுடை. அறிவார்ந்த சிறுமியான ஆவுடை குழந்தைப் பருவத்திலேயே திருமணமாகிக் கைம்பெண்ணானவர். ஆவுடை அவர்களின் தாயார் தாம் சார்ந்திருந்த சமூக வழக்கத்திற்கு மாறாக ஆவுடை அவர்களுக்கு அடிப்படைக் கல்வி புகட்டியும் கைம்மை நோன்பை ஏற்கவிடாமலும் வளர்த்தார். இருப்பினும் ஆவுடை பருவமடைந்த பின்பு சமூக நெருக்கடியின் காரணமாக தன்னுடைய தலை முடியயை மழித்து கைம்மை நோன்பினை ஏற்கவேண்டிய சூழ்நிலை ஏற்பட்டது. மேலும் கைம்பெண்கள் மீதான அடக்குமுறை மற்றும் சமூகக் கட்டுப்பாடுகள் காரணமாக ஆவுடை அவர்கள் உளவியல் ரீதியாகப் பல துன்பங்களை அனுபவிக்க நேர்ந்தது.

    ரசூல் பீவி அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கை குறித்த தகவல்கள் அவரது பாடல்களில் காணக்கிடக்கின்றன. ரசூலின் பாடலின் வழியாக அவருடைய தந்தையார் நயினார் முகமது என்றும் கணவர் பரிமளத்தார் என்று அழைக்கப்படும் புலவர் ஞானி முகமது காசிம் சாகிபு என்றும், மகன் முகம்மதப்பா சாஹிப் என்றும் அறியமுடிகிறது. ரசூல் பீவி மட்டுமின்றி அவரது கணவரும் ஒரு சூபி ஞானியாகத் திகழ்ந்தார். மேலும் இருவரும் இணைந்தே ஆன்மீகச் சுற்றுப்பயணங்கள் மேற்கொண்டனர். பீவி தன்னுடைய கணவர் பரிமளத்தாரோடு வாழ்ந்த காதல் வாழ்வினை மரணத்துக்குப் பின்பான மறுமையிலும் தொடரவேண்டும் என்று இறைவனிடம் வேண்டுவதாகக் கீழ்வரும் பாடலில் பதிவு செய்துள்ளார்;

    ‘மயில் குயில்போல் கூடினமே மாநிலத்தில் மனமே
    மறைந்தாலும் இதுபோலே மண்ணறையில் இருக்க
    துயிலுடைந்து எழுந்ததுபோல் துணைமஹூலில் இருக்க
    துலக்கும் ரஹ்மான் ஆணை துய்யோன் பரிமளமே’

    மேலும் ரசூல் பீவியை புகழ்ந்து அவருடைய மகன் பாடல் இயற்றியதோடு மட்டுமல்லாமல் பீவியினுடைய பாடல்களைப் புத்தகமாகப் பதிப்பித்திருப்பதையும் காணும்பொழுது ரசூல்பீவி அவர்கள் மனநிறைவான காதல் வாழ்க்கையின் வழியே ஆன்மீக வாழ்வினை வாழ்ந்தார் என்பதையும் அறிந்து கொள்ள முடிகிறது.

    ஆவுடை அக்காள் மற்றும் ரசூல் பீவி ஆகியோருடைய வாழ்வினை ஒப்புநோக்கும்பொழுது கைம்பெண்ணான அக்காளுக்கு ஏற்பட்ட சமூக அழுத்தம் எனும் சிறையில் இருந்து மீள்வதற்கு ஆன்மீக விடுதலையை நோக்கிப் பயணித்ததை உணரலாம். இதற்கு மாறாக ரசூல்பீவி அவர்கள் இல்லற வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்து கொண்டே ஆன்மீக மெய்ஞான நிலையை நோக்கிப் பயணித்தார் என்பது புலனாகிறது.

    குருவருளும் – திருவருளும்

    ஆவுடை அவர்கள் சமூக அடக்குமுறையின் காரணமாக மனமுடைந்திருந்த சமயத்தில், தஞ்சை மராத்திய அரசின் ஆளுகைக்கு உட்பட்ட திருவிசைநல்லூர் என்ற கிராமத்தில் இருந்து ஸ்ரீதர வெங்கடேச தேசிக அய்யாவாள் என்கிற மகான் செங்கோட்டைக்கு வருகை புரிந்தார். கைம்பெண்ணான ஆவுடை அவர்கள் சமூக கட்டுப்பாட்டையும் மீறி ஸ்ரீதர வெங்கடேச அய்யாவாளை அரிஹர நதிக்கரையில் அமைந்த மண்டபத்தில் சந்தித்து, அவரை தன்னுடைய ஞானகுருவாக ஏற்றார். இதன் காரணமாக சமூக நிந்தைக்கும் ஆளானார். இந்தச் சந்திப்பே ஆவுடை அவர்களின் வாழ்வில் பெரும் திருப்புமுனையாக அமைந்தது. குருவினுடைய திருவருளால் அத்வைத ஞானமார்க்கத்தைப் பின்பற்றி மெய்ஞானத் தெளிவடைந்து தன்மீது வலுக்கட்டாயமாகத் திணிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த சமூக அடக்குமுறையினைத் தகர்த்தெறிந்தார். மேலும் இப்பூவுலகில் தனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட பற்றினை அகற்றி இறைவனோடு தன்னை ஒன்றச் செய்த குருநாதருக்கு தனது நன்றியைக் கீழ்காணும் பாடல் வழியே சமர்பிப்பதன் மூலம் அக்காளுடைய குரு பக்தி புலனாகிறது.

    “பாசமகற்றிப் பதிதன்னில் சேர்த்து வைத்த பண்டிதனே! – குருநாதா!
    தேசமெங்கும் புகழ் ஸ்ரீ வெங்கடேசுவர தேசிகரே! – குருநாதா!”

    அத்வைத மெய் ஞான ஆண்டி, பக்: 10

    “குருநாதனைப் பூஜித்தால் தாண்டி உனக்கு நன்மைவரு மென்றாண்டி
    கும்பிக்குச் சோறிடு என்றாண்டி – அவன் கூடைக்கு முத்திடு என்றாண்டி”

    குரு, பக்: 85

    ஒரு ஆன்மீகக் குருவின் ஞான வழிகாட்டுதலின் வழியாகவே ஒரு சூபி தன்னுடைய ஆன்மீக மெய்ஞான நிலையினை அடைய முடியும். மேலும் எவருக்கு ஷைகு (குரு) இல்லையோ அவருக்கு ஷைத்தான்தான் ஷைகு என்பது சூபிக்கள் மத்தியில் வழக்கிலுள்ள பழமொழியாகும். குரு வழங்கக்கூடிய ஆன்மீக அறிவுரைகளும் அங்கீகாரமும் (இஜாஸா) சூபியின் வாழ்வில் தவிர்க்க இயலாத அங்கங்களாகும். இத்தகைய குரு – சீட உறவு எனும் நெடிய உடைபடாத சூபியிச சங்கிலித் தொடரின் இரு கண்ணிகளாக விளங்கியவர்கள்தான் சூபி ஞானி ரசூல் பீவி அவர்களும் அவருடைய ஆன்மீக குருவான ஷெய்கஃப்துல் காதர் ஷாஹன்ஷா அவர்களும் ஆவர். ஆன்மீகக் குருவினுடைய திருவருட் துணையால் பீவி அவர்கள் பல அத்வைத மெய்ஞான ஒளிவீசும் பாடல்களை இயற்றினார்.

    அத்வைத மற்றும் சூபி தத்துவ மரபின்படி ஞானவாழ்வுப் பயிற்சி செய்பவர்களுக்கு குருவழிகாட்டுதல் மிகவும் அவசியமானது. ஆவுடை மற்றும் ரசூல் பீவி ஆகிய இருவரும் தத்தமது குருவின் ஞான வழிகாட்டுதலின்படி ஆன்மீக சாதனைகளை மேற்கொண்டனர் என்பதை அவர்களின் பாடல்களின் வழியே அறிய முடிகிறது.

    பக்தியும் – பாடலும்

    குருவினுடைய திருவருளால் ஆன்மீக சாதனைகளை மேற்கொண்ட ஆவுடை அவர்கள், நடைபயணமாகப் பல புண்ணியத் தலங்களுக்குச் சென்று இறுதியாக, செங்கோட்டை வந்து தங்கினார். செங்கோட்டையில் பல ஆண்டுகள் வாழ்ந்த ஆவுடை அவர்கள் அத்வைதச் சிந்தனை மிளிரும் பல பாடல்களை இயற்றினார். வாய்மொழியாகப் பரவிய ஞானப்பாடல்களில் சேகரிக்கப்பட்டவை சொற்பமே. அவற்றில் சில:

    திருநெல்வேலிச் சீமையிலுள்ள அந்தணப் பெண்கள் மத்தியில் ஆவுடை அவர்களின் பாடல்கள் வெகுவாகப் பாடப்பட்டு வந்தன. இதுவரையிலும் ஆவுடை அவர்களை நிந்தனை செய்த சமூகம் அவருடைய ஞானப் பாடல்கள் மற்றும் ஆன்மீகப் பணியின் காரணமாக அவரை ஆவுடை அக்காள் என்று போற்றியழைத்து மரியாதை செலுத்தியது.

    போன்ற தலைப்பில் ஞான ஒளி வீசும் பாடல்கள் அடங்கியுள்ளன.

    அக்காளும் பீவியும் தமது ஆன்மீக மெய்யுணர்வின் வெளிப்பாடாக அமைந்த ஞானப் பாடல்களை, அனைத்துத் தரப்பினரும் அறிந்து கொள்ளும் வண்ணம் எளிமையான நாட்டுப்புறப் பாடல் வடிவிலேயே இயற்றினார்கள். எளிமையான கண்ணிகளும், முடுகுகளும், சிந்துகளும், கப்பற்பாடல்களும் எளியவரும் மனனம் செய்யும்படி இருந்ததால், வாய்மொழியாகவே பரவ ஏதுவாய் இருந்தது. அக்காளின் ஞானப் பாடல்களால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்ட அநேகர் அவருடைய சீடர்களாக மாறினர் என்று கோமதி ராஜாங்கம் அவர்கள் பதிவு செய்துள்ளார். இதேபோன்று ரசூல் பீவியினுடைய ஞானப் பாடல்கள் அவருக்கு அநேகம் பிறசமயத்தைச் சார்ந்த சீடர்களைப் பெற்றுத்தந்தது. அவர்களுள் குறிப்பிடத் தகுந்தவர்கள் பாளையம்கோட்டை எம். சுப்பையா பிள்ளை, தென்காசி பாடலிங்க முதலியார் மற்றும் தென்காசி கிருஷ்ணம்மாள் சந்நியாசி ஆகியோர் ஆவர்.

    முழுமையும் – முக்தியும்

    ஆவுடை அவர்களின் மரணம் பற்றிய தெளிவான குறிப்புகள் கிடைக்கப் பெறவில்லை. ஆன்மீக முழுமையடைந்த ஆவுடை அவர்கள் ஆடி அமாவாசை தினத்தன்று குற்றாலத்தில் நீராடிவிட்டு, தனது புடவைப்பெட்டியோடு பொதிகை மலைமீது ஏறிச்சென்றவர் பின்பு திரும்பவே இல்லை என்ற செவிவழிச் செய்தியைக் கோமதி ராஜாங்கம் அவர்கள் பதிவுசெய்துள்ளார். அதேசமயம் அனுபோக ரத்னமாலை எனும் இரங்கற்பாடலை, கி.பி. 1720ஆம் ஆண்டில் மறைந்த ஸ்ரீதர அய்யாவாளுக்காக ஆவுடை அவர்கள் இயற்றியுள்ளார். இதனடிப்படையில் நோக்கும்போது ஆவுடை அக்காள் அவர்கள் 1720க்கு பின்னர்தான் இறந்திருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதனை  அறிய முடியும்.

    ரசூல் பீவி அவர்கள் மரணித்த வருடம் பற்றிய சரியான குறிப்புகள் இல்லை. இருப்பினும், தாயம்மாள் அறவாணன் அவர்களின் கருத்தின்படி ரசூல்பீவி 1910ஆம் ஆண்டுக்குப் பின்புதான் இயற்கை எய்தி இருக்க வேண்டும். அப்படி இல்லாத பட்சத்தில் ரசூல்பீவி 1910க்கு முன்பே மரணித்து இருக்கக் கூடிய வாய்ப்பு உள்ளதாகவும் கருதலாம்.

    முடிவுரை

    செங்கோட்டை ஆவுடை அக்காள் மற்றும் தென்காசி ரசூல்பீவி ஆகிய இருவரும் தென்பொதிகையின் சாரலின் இருவேறு பகுதியைச் சார்ந்தவர்களாக இருந்தாலும் அவர்கள் வாழ்ந்த காலம், வாழ்க்கை, குரு பக்தி, இயற்றிய பாடல்கள் மற்றும் மரணம் போன்றவற்றில் பல ஒற்றுமை மற்றும் வேற்றுமைகள் காணப்படுகின்றன. ஆவுடை அக்காள் மற்றும் ரசூல் பீவி ஆகிய இருவரும் வாழ்ந்ததற்கான கால இடைவெளி அதிகபட்சமாக 200 ஆண்டுகளேனும் இருக்கலாம். ஆவுடை அவர்களின் பதின்ம வயதிலிருந்து மரணம் வரை தாம் சந்தித்த இன்னல்களையும் அடக்குமுறைகளையும் ஞானவாழ்வினை ஆயுதமாக ஏந்தியே எதிர்கொள்ள வேண்டியதாய் இருந்தது. இதற்கு மாறாக ரசூல்பீவி அவர்கள் கணவனோடு இணைந்து இனிமையான இல்லற மற்றும் ஞானவாழ்வினை மேற்கொண்டார் என்பதும் புலனாகிறது. குருவினுடைய வருகையும் அருளும் ஆவுடை அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் பெரும் மாறுதலையும் ஆறுதலையும் தந்தது. குருவினுடைய அருளுளோடு இணைந்து கணவருடைய ஆன்மீக வழிகாட்டுதலும் ரசூல் பீவி அவர்களை வழி நடத்தியது எனலாம். ஆவுடை அவர்கள் தன்னுடைய பாடல்களில் துயரத்தின் வலியையும், உலக வாழ்வின் உள்ளீடற்ற தன்மையையும், மதசம்பிரதாய எதிர்ப்பினையும் அத்வைத சிந்தனை கலந்து பாடியுள்ளார். ரசூல் அவர்களின் பாடல்களில் இஸ்லாமியச் சிந்தனைகளோடு சைவ சமயச் சொல்லாடல்களும், அத்வைதச் சிந்தனைகளும் விரவிக் காணப்படுகின்றன. மேலும் ரசூல் அவர்களின் பாடல்களில் ஆவுடை அவர்களின் பாடற் கருத்துக்களின் தாக்கம் பரவலாகக் காணப்படுகின்றது. உதாரணமாக, கண்ணிகள், முடுகுகள் மற்றும் கப்பல் சிந்து போன்ற பாடல்களில் இந்த ஒற்றுமையை அறியலாம். இரும்புப் பாதையின் இரு தண்டவாளங்களைப் போன்று இருவரின் மத நம்பிக்கையும் வாழ்வும் இருந்தாலும் அவர்கள் வெளிப்படுத்திய ஞானக் கருத்துக்களும் அதன் சாரமும் ஒன்றே, இறுதியாக அவை சேரும் இடமும் ஒன்றே. மத சகிப்புத்தன்மை அருகிவரும் இக்காலகட்டத்தில் இவ்விரு ஞானியரின் வாழ்வும் ஆன்மீகப் பங்களிப்பும் அனைவரும் படித்து உணர வேண்டியது என்றால் அது மிகையில்லை.

    ஆய்வறிஞர் மதிப்புரை (Peer Review):

    தமிழகத்தின் தென்பகுதியாகிய தென்காசி மற்றும் செங்கோட்டையில் வாழ்ந்த இரு பெண் ஆளுமைகளின் வாழ்வியலை ஒப்பிட்டுச் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள ஒப்பீட்டாய்வாக இக்கட்டுரை அமைகிறது. இருவர்தம் படைப்புகளில் உள்ள அத்வைத சூபியிசக் கோட்பாட்டு ஒற்றுமையைப் புலப்படுத்தியிருப்பது கட்டுரைக்கு மேலும் வலுச் சேர்க்கிறது. அதைப் போலவே இருவர்தம் கால ஆராய்ச்சியும் தகுந்த சான்றுகளால் நிறுவப் பெற்றுள்ளது.

    இம்மையில் போராடிய ஒருவரும் மறுமைக்குப் பேறு வேண்டிய மற்றொருவருமாக குருவருளையும் திருவருளையும் வேண்டிப் பாடிய இருவருடைய வாழ்வியலைப் ஆய்வுக்கு உட்படுத்த ஒப்புமையும் பகுப்புமையுமாக விளங்கும் உத்தி நன்று. பாடல் மேற்கோள்கள், நூல்களின் பட்டியல், மேலும் பல ஆய்வுகளுக்கு வழிகோலும். இருநூறு ஆண்டுக்கால இடைவெளியில் ஒரே பகுதியில் ஒன்றியும் மாறுபட்டுமான வாழ்வியலைக் கொண்டிருந்த இருவர்தம் படைப்புகளும் ஒத்துக் காணப்பட்டுள்ளதை இந்தக் கட்டுரை எடுத்துக் காட்டுகிறது.
