    Kamakshi Paatti

    Baskar Seshadri

It was a wonderful Evening. It was too chill and i was almost near the Beach Front. But my Visit was not to be in the Seashore. It was a Visit and a meeting i have been longing for long Years and it happened few days back. Yes, it was a meeting with Kamakshi Paatti of Besant Nagar. People who live in adayar and Besant nagar Belt will surely know who she is.

She is a fighter and stands first when it comes to a civic Issue. Stake holders of the Governments are all well aware how she is straight forward and strong in handling an issue. Whether it’s the Besant Nagar Karl Schmidt Memorial or a storm water drain erection she stands in the Forefront to talk to officials over phone and handles effectively to get the issue redressed. She was on High Praise of the top officials like Rajesh Lakhoni, Vijay Pingle, Bedi of GC , Iraiyanbu and few more.

Years ago the officials of GCC were in a Process of axing few trees on Avenue road which was not called for. The purpose was enlarging the pavement. Since it was felt that Trees would be affected she went to the spot and protested against the act of the Officials. People realized her concern and the officials stopped the action immediately

Sample one More – She found a Policeman near her House some time back sipping a tea and discarding the cup on the road. She went straight to him and told to take it and drop it in the Dust bin. And he did it immediately, it’s just because of not a civic sense alone but the boldness and the age matters too. She has a lot of stories to share as she has been doing for almost three decades since she came to Chennai from New Delhi. She says she loves to do what she is meant for. If i don’t act i will die. This was exactly what she told during the one hour tete e tete . When our society has little care of the environment and civic sense her courage and determination is a classic example of how a Social Activist should be. She was of a Great praise on Vincent D Souza of Mylapore Times and Sridhar Venkatraman of Mylapore.

When i feel too tired to handle an issue i get dejected sooner but Kamakshi Patti is never tired and she is an energizer and a role model to everyone. Our salutes to Paatti, Atthai Pattti, Old Lady as being called by the officials and the residents of that area.

Thanks to Sridhar Venkatraman to make her reach me and i was glad that i could make it make it to her after long months of Conversation.

Thank you Paatti for the Lovely Hot coffee and Biscuits which added my energy further more after the meeting. And she was active, brisk to do everything on her own and was communicating perfectly with no Aid .

You should believe this to see her and she is ninety Four Years Young.

My Respects and Namaskaram to you. You are an asset to this Community and i Bow my head to what all you do to one and all around us.

    A Blind Alley Ahead?

ADMK which was started fifty years ago (17th October 1972) is starting the Golden Jubilee Year. It was a big storm when the Famed MGR Started this party and it almost brought a death knell to the DMK. Karunanidhi started his downfall almost after this and due to misrule and other factors DMK Got the Power back after several years. Jaya who took the mantle took it to a big stride and she developed the party to its peak even bettering MGR. But all came became Topsy Turvy after corruption and adamancy became the order of the day. Then comes to the massive corruption and Emergence of Sasikala as a power centre.

The rest is known to all. Till last month the seizure of the properties and Benami assets of sasi had totally wiped out her amassed wealth but she still holds a say in the party. After almost ten years the party is now routed and with all the party squabbles and greed among the party members at top level had razed it to ashes.

Now sasi is attempting to make an entry and cases on top echelon is hanging like a Damocles sword. Unless OPS and EPS Join hands with a real seriousness and cope up with Sasi there is no way they can emerge successful. If its not done ADMK May be wiped out well before the next elections. And going by the present happenings their emergence back is highly doubtful. Its end of the road of the ADMK almost. There is no one there for a soul searching at this stage in the party but their strong Volunteer base is amazing which if kept alive can help to kick back to life some time later.

But who will bell the cat? Is there any one there is a million dollar Question. Its time they have to wake up from the slumber.

She is Mrs Lakshmi but fondly called as Krithika mess Patti of Madippakkam. She is above seventy and has been running a mess in that belt for quite some time. Her husband was the pillar of strength for her endeavor and they both were running the mess and many people used to eat in that mess for the Patti and The food purely out of affection and respect for the age and Pricing.

She lost her daughter sometime back and the couple was struggling to make out both ends meet during the covid times all these days. People who live in that area may know her for her smiling and courteous service.

  • A design problem

    A design problem

    Annakannan

Recently I bought a Mosquito net for a single bed. Prior to this, I was using a Mosquito net for a double bed. Both I bought from Amazon from the same brand Classic Mosquito net.

Both nets are 200 CM length, which is comfortable. Width is 200 CM for double; 130 CM for single, that is also fine. My issue is not with the height (145 CM for double; 120 CM for single); but the entry portion of the net, where we open & close the zip.

When they reduce the height, the entry portion height is also reduced; so I have to bend more to accommodate the net (my bed is on the floor without a cot). I can adjust to bend more. But, I feel this is a design problem to be addressed.

    Amazon, please note.

Today I made a transaction through Google Pay. It asked to provide the Location access for security reasons. Yes, it is a good step. I agreed; the transaction was successful and I left the shop.

After several hours, I found out that the GPS is still ON. If the Location access is for the money transaction means, after the transaction, it should go automatically OFF right? Why is this keeping on tracking & wasting the battery?

At least there should be an alert to continue the location access or not, for further transactions.

  • Life is Crude

    Life is Crude

    Baskar Seshadri

When I was motoring I could hear some devotional song from somewhere but there was no function or any event. Listening to the rendering  while driving  I found this couple standing in a corner of a road singing with the little musical instruments on South Mada street Mylapore. I could see the big face of a penury and grief stricken couple who happened to be differently- abled.

Yes they can’t see and their vision was lost decades back and they manage their life by doing this singing wherever they go. I felt very heavy inside and it was almost an ache and I was unable to stand there further. I personally know the pain of what poor vision is and this sight was so deep in me and made me unmoved for a while.

No answer can redress this couple and no money can ever satiate what they need. Don’t understand the crudeness of this imbalanced life. What’s the fun in posting a photo, poetry or sarcasm on a wall? I am sensible to understand in being absurd as someone remarked to me the other day. He was cultured enough to describe me gently. I don’t fit anywhere. I am a shapeless sapien. I should not compare, but a comforting mind of life hits me on my face.

The Blue cross of India had kept the water bowls in many streets near Mandaveli. But that was in ceramic and it could not last long. They  get damaged very soon.

Tejasvi is a young  energetic boy who used to play cricket in the street (angry Batsman) had noticed this and wanted to do something. He smartly approached a mason who was doing a housing project nearby  and asked him whether he could do a small bowl at some nominal cost and it did happen in just a day. Now it’s cured and ready to quench the birds, cattle and few dogs that roam over.

I Never thought of this angle and I feel proud of Young Tejasvi for having stumbled upon this idea.

Kudos Tejas. The Bowl he did is in Tirvengadam street.

Friends can think on these lines in their respective streets.

  • The Swan Sculpture of Lake Mirror

The Swan Sculpture of Lake Mirror

    -Niveditha Raman

Lakeland is one of the cities of Florida and is famous for numerous lakes and museums, which are provided as spectacular tourist attractions for people to visit. Of those lakes, Lake Mirror is most recognized for its various sculptures that portray different themes of art. The beautiful swan sculpture, shown in this article, is a representation of the state of Florida, which is indeed home to thousands of swans. Sculptors generally intend to incorporate certain human aspects within their designs, and the formation of the swan in this region focuses on values of nature that humans need to understand. I believe that people neglect the sculpture’s beauty as details are incorporated. This piece of art symbolizes a source of purity, gracefulness, elegance, and good luck. In addition, the artworks painted on the swan’s front side show the cityscape of downtown Lakeland along with multiple colors used for the wings. Consequently, human purposes are being considered as a “role of art” with the presence of this sculpture.

I believe that this swan sculpture is located in the category of creativity along with other forms of visual arts, explained clearly in art textbooks. Typically, the creativity factor is inspired by observing natural phenomena or man-made architecture. Within this artwork, the sculptor had been inspired to produce a depiction of a real-life swan to entertain people and convey the accuracy within the shape of the wings, head, and body. One notable element of the sculpture is the upward position of its wings as if taking flight from the ground. The assorted pigmentations utilized to make new designs that are exhibited in specific portions of the sculpture give it a more unique appearance.

Even though the sculptor of this artistic creation is unknown, it is a fact that the city of Lakeland had been awarded several swan sculptures by the Queen of England in 1957.  After it had been offered to the area as a gift, city officials decided to place one of the sculptures on a platform at Lake Mirror. Since this era, thousands of renovations have occurred to maintain the physical presence of the swan including original styles, new construction, and appealing features. On a day-to-day basis, hundreds of people come to view this masterpiece, demonstrating the audience that is being entertained. Americans from all over the county typically come to this particular location due to the number of modern art themes that are revealed within the sculptures, paintings, and crafts.

Furthermore, the theme of art that is applicable to the swan sculpture is “The Natural World” because the artwork is definitely depicting an organism that is found in the environment. In my perspective, the sculptor may have deeply observed and interpreted the subject matter of an actual swan to organize lots of sketches in order to build a realistic statue based on specific characteristics. When artists pursue this theme within their creations, they illustrate creatures, landscapes, and plant life to educate people about the importance of the Earth and the necessity of protecting wildlife. Similar to The Oxbow painting, the swan shows that nature could be appreciated by analyzing each component such as the bright sky, lush trees, and lovely river down below. In this circumstance, imagination also plays a key role in the process of sculpting.

    Remembering Rajiv Gandhi

    Baskar Seshadri

May 21st, marks the death of Rajiv Gandhi and thirty years had gone by now. I was in my early thirties when this assassination had happened and the news shook me early in the morning through the radio bulletin. It was the news of Indira Gandhi one morning when i was in my office in 1984. Both Shook me a lot in my life and later it was MGR in I987. All with a gap of around three years plus.

India lost a charming Leader at his Prime age and I feel the shape of India could have been better had he had been alive. Of course am aware of Bofors and other Corruption cases that bogged down him and in spite of it i feel it’s an act of cowardice by the Sikh men and The team of LTTE.

As a follower of Cho I literally opposed Congress and at some point of time after their Ghory Death I felt it was an injustice to both Indira and Rajiv in our Own Land .The mystery which shrouded their death had still not come out with the brazen facts to its root. One day that will surely happen – One day .

    Baskar Seshadri

When everyone had a dream to become an engineer or pursue aeronautical, James here in Mylapore decided to take up a different line two years ago and Mylai Boxing academy was born. It was a difficult situation in the beginning for him, when there were no takers for his coach and it was the place that matters most in deciding the growth of any venture. At that time, It was Mr. Rakesh who volunteered to give his place on solaiappan street, Mylapore where the Malathi Montessori school was functioning and it was closed few years ago. He remembers Rakesh every minute for all the support he has been lending all these years for his Venture.

It’s not just a bed of roses and going to James to get admitted. He is very particular about the studies of the student and only if he convinced that they are bright enough in academics he will admit the students. It was started on April 2 of 2019 and he had completed his two full years now. He teaches in the morning to some select students in Nageswara Rao Park and the aim of the coach Paul James is to groom more people to make them represent India in Boxing. He has nearly sixty students coming in different times and evening sessions does happen at Solaiappan street between six and eight pm. Both boys and girls can join if they fit the bill as James sees them.

James now 24 is not keen on fees and he has no qualms in admitting even from local slums and other parts of town. James has to credit big trophies which he got from TN Sports University, and he is a gold medallion winner which he had bagged in many events. If anybody has an aspiration one has to be a sound student and the approval of the parents is a must to get admitted over there. So if you come across anyone who has a keen interest in Boxing just do refer to our James. I am sure he will take those to greater heights.

Meet James in the Mahalakshmi School premises in the evening after six pm. Who knows, maybe your daughter or son can scale a high alt soon in this new coaching of boxing.

Please note that this is first boxing coaching ring in Mylapore and it’s on Solaiappan street, Mylapore.

    Well Done, ECI

    Baskar Seshadri

I exercised my franchise at Vidya Mandir school mylapore and went round to many booths to cover the polling within my limited capacity. I should say that this is the best polling I have seen in these forty long years. It was orderly, perfect, well mannered with the best possible adherence.

I covered to a maximum of ten booths from santhome to Mandaveli and from Royapettah to Mylapore and I found the same pattern of discipline in all the booths. The police officials. para military forces, and election duty officers were too kind enough in extending their best service today.

The officials inside the booth were quiet and were impartial and the elderly were given the best respect. Besides their handling of these massive exercise during this pandemic period is extremely laudable. From the distribution of the glove to the assistance of exercising it was no doubt a job well done by the ECI.

Thankfully it’s not too hot and the turnout was really good. The ECI Top man Mr. Sahu in charge of Tamilnadu says its close to twenty Four percent in five hours indicating an average of five percent per hour roughly. The Electorates are brilliant and they need no education honestly since their presence all over show how concerned and conscious they were to elect their Representative. Kudos to the stakeholders, polling and police officials and the ECI.

I am proud to be a voter of this soil and I hold this Pride with me. Hail India.

There are few corporate companies which do the teaching like the One Veta which is now gone. And those days it was only Rapidex English book the only source to learn the spoken English.

The main issue in the learning is the shyness and hesitation which some institutes could attend well but what needed now is a private class with a comfortable environment and feel free mind. Kudos Tamilnadu Police

    Baskar Seshadri

We all must be aware the problem the Policemen face when they are posted on Bandobust Duty. Most particularly the women Police. Normally the bandobast duty is handled by the police force when large meetings are held by political meetings and agitations are held or when National leaders land in Chennai. In such a case many police forces used to be deployed are drawn from suburbs and even from outstations. They can manage to eat elsewhere after the duty is over or can take a break and go for a quick bite.

But the main problem is they may not find a toilet or any small restroom in the vicinity. They have to depend upon a hotel or a shop which is an issue of embarrassment since their obligation may draw ire sometimes. But not anymore.

The state police had made arrangements to procure restroom vehicles for these police force which are taken to the sites where the meeting or agitation is being held in Chennai . These vehicles do have the facility to use a toilet both western and Indian with a wash area and change room. This is a boon to those who are drawn to the sites and there are six vehicles as of now, one exclusive for women.

There are official drivers for all the vehicles and the one which was parked few days back is shown in the picture. A Good initiative indeed. The vehicle is taken to the filling point like MRC Nagar or any other point in Nungambakkam for regular top up depending upon the location where vehicle is to be taken. The very idea though a long pending one had been implemented at a right time and kudos to the state Police in doing it so. Hats Off.

And there is a background news to this .An year ago a person an active man of Facebook had a chat with a sub inspector when he was on a Bandobust duty .He raised this point about the toilet facility with him and he expressed in negative and said it could not happen overnight as all those are to be done in a process which might take time.

Too disturbed at this Mr Chandramouleeswaran visvanathan took the matter with a serious intention to do something and posted first this on his facebook wall with a copy to the CM Cell.

Based on his petition and grievance the cell took the action and informed him back that they are in the process of finding a solution and arranging mobile toilets, zone wise soon.

Not this alone. Joint secretary of TN Government called him and apprised about the action that has been done based on his request.

All these had happened based on his petition and the system is now in place. Besides he received two calls from DIG of two different zones and expressed the happiness on the action taken by the state.

First the appreciation should go Mr Chandramouleeswaran Visvanathan on this for having taken up this issue and next to the state government for the swift action.

What a Concern and determination Sir, Congrats
