43]நண்பர்காள், மதுக் கூத்தடிப்புத் துணிவுடன்
நடந்ததென் வீட்டில் எனக்கிரண்டாம் திருமணம்;
காரணம் இல்லை, பழங் கட்டிலுக்கு மணவிலக்கு
திராட்சைக் கொடி மகள் என் மனைவியாய் ஏற்பு.

You know, my Friends, with what a brave Carouse
I made a Second Marriage in my house;
Divorced old barren Reason from my Bed,
And took the Daughter of the Vine to Spouse.
[44] மாலை மதுக்கடை வாசலில் வாய் பிளந்து
மங்கிய வேளையில் வந்தாள் ஓர் தேவதை போல்
பானை ஒன்றைச் சுமந்து கொண்டு தோளில்;
சுவைக்கச் சொன்ன தென்னை, திராட்சை ரசம்.

And lately, by the Tavern Door agape,
Came stealing through the Dusk an Angel Shape
Bearing a Vessel on his Shoulder; and
He bid me taste of it; and ’twas – the Grape!
[45] திராட்சை, தர்க்கப்படி பூரண மானது
எழுபத்தி ரண்டு குண்டா எதிராய்ச் சொல்லும்
எளிய ரசவாதி சில நேரத்தில் மாற்றுவான்
வாழ்வின் ஈய உலோகத்தைத் தங்க மயமாய்.
